COURSE OUTLINE
HEAT TRANSFER
*********************************************************************
A. Course Instructor
B. Course Objectives:
To understand and learn the physical mechanisms that underlie the three modes of
heat transfer processes. These modes are conduction, convention and radiation.
Emphasis will be placed to quantify the amount of energy in transit, on the design of
heat transfer equipments, and on the industrial and environmental problems involving
heat transfer processes.
C. Textbook Required:
Bergman, T.L.; Lavine, A.S.; Incropera, F.P. and DeWitt, D.P., Fundamentals of
Heat and Mass Transfer, John Wiley and Sons, Seventh Edition (2011).
D. Grading:
TOTAL 100%
The mark distribution is only approximate. Final grades will be assigned at the
discretion of the instructor subject to the University Council and College Regulations
on Examinations.
2
E. Problem Assignments:
All problem numbers refer to those in the text by Bergman et al. 2011 (Seventh
Edition). Solutions to the assignments will be made available in the reserve section of
Engineering Library after the assignments are due.
F. Mid-term Examination:
There will be one mid-term examination given on Monday, February 29, 2016 from
9:30 to 10:20 a.m. in Room Thorv. 110. This exam will be CLOSED BOOK.
