lxman1 , 08-03-2010 04:35 PM #1

Here is a recall that just came out in june for the 2007 calibers. I am sending this to you and you can
post it.
2007 (PM) Dodge Caliber
2007 (MK) Jeep Compass
NOTE: This recall applies only to the above vehicles equipped with an automatic
transmission (sales code DAV) and built from March 7, 2006 through May 19, 2006
(MDH 030706 through 051921).
The accelerator pedal on about 24,800 of the above vehicles may stick during vehicle
operation. This could cause the vehicle to react differently than the driver anticipated.
This could cause a crash without warning.
SPECIAL NOTE: All involved vehicles are equipped with an Electronic Throttle
Control (ETC) system that utilizes Smart Pedal technology that allows a brake
pedal input to override the throttle control system.
Models
IMPORTANT: Some of the involved vehicles may be in dealer used vehicle
inventory. Dealers should complete this recall service on these vehicles before
retail delivery. Dealers should also perform this recall on vehicles in for service.
Involved vehicles can be determined by using the VIP inquiry process.

Is there a recall or TSB for the suspension on the Caliber? Had sway links / bushings fail on both
2011 and 2012 Calibers before 200720K.Caliber/Compass Recall info

Rear Axle Pinion Nut recall

Chet Ubetcha , 07-05-2015 05:44 PM #1

Received notication in the mail that my truck is affected by this recall. I expected it to be about the
airbags, so this was a surprise when I opened it. Is this the infamous C-clip nally being
acknowledged? Any info on what this is about?

HammerZ71 , 07-05-2015 05:54 PM #2

Nope, not the c clip. A small number of '05s have had the pinion nut come loose resulting in the
driveshaft popping off. Which could lead to an accident. I believe they install a separate retainer so

the nut can't loosen.

The c - clips (technically lsd retaining clips) failure just causes $$$ issues in rebuilding the rear end
but ain't killed anybody - so I guess it doesn't rate a recall...

Chet Ubetcha , 07-05-2015 06:22 PM #3

Thanks. I'll give the dealer a call tomorrow and see what they say.

My understanding was they replace it and make sure it has loctite on it. Maybe Im wrong. Either way,
mine was "redone"? when I did my gears

vinman966 , 08-08-2015 02:11 PM #5

Recall resolved
I scheduled to have mine replaced. They also scheduled to repair the airbag issue.
Turned
Reply out that mine hadfailed AND the rear end was about 1/1 to fail. More
They installed a new gear set and seals.
Went without the truck for almost two weeks.
Had to drive a Chrysler 200 as my "work truck".
All in all I felt that I was pretty well taken care of and the truck rides much quieter now.
No money out of pocket and I even saved money driving a car. I rode around with the windows down
and AC cranking.

Chet Ubetcha , 08-08-2015 06:58 PM #6

Good to hear. I wouldn't be upset if they had to redo the rear end on it. I nally got a hold of one of the
dealers here and I'm "on the list" for both recalls. No ETA on parts from Dodge, though.

I got the pinion nut recall and took it in last week to the dealer. They stated all they do is check to
make sure it is torqued properly. Everything checked out ok so they didn't do any additional work. I
had a small leak in the differential so over the weekend, I took it to another shop to have the cover
taken off and seal replaced. I just got a call from them and said that there are metal shavings in the
differential oil and I'll need a rebuild soon.

I'm not a tech so this is not an area I'm familiar with. Question I have is could the pinion nut recall
have something to do with the problems I now have with my differential? My '05 Ram truck has 99k
miles so it seems premature to have to deal with a rebuild. Thanks.

Your metal in the oil is likely from the clutch pack retaining clips that have broken off and been
chewed up by the gears

The dealer should have opened it up to check the torque on the nut, so they would've seen that I
would think. It's getting close to the holidays...do you trust this other shop?

SJ03

slheinlein , 10-20-2015 11:32 AM #10

Yes, I trust the other shop. I called the dealer and he stated they don't open it up to check the torque
since the nut can be access from the outside. I'm just thinking that the recalled pinion nut has
something to do with the differential going bad. Seems like 99k miles is premature for this kind of
problem. I'm planning to go back to the dealer to see if they are willing to help me out with a rebuild.
