Organizer: SV@Home & City of San Jose Housing Department
Tour bus will leave from City Hall, 200 East Santa Clara St., San Jose
Please arrive early as the bus will be leaving City Hall at 10:00 AM sharp.
This tour will highlight over two dozen affordable housing developments
built over the past two decades in San Jose and offer a historical perspective
on San Joses land use and affordable housing policies. The tour will be
guided by Tom MacRostie, who retired from the City after spending 18
years in Planning and 12 years in Housing, where he oversaw affordable
housing lending in the Housing Rehabilitation Program and the Project Development Program.
We will make two stops: 1) Ford Road Plaza & Monterey Villa, hosted by Eden housing, and 2) Kings Crossing, Belovida
at Newbury Park, and the New San Jose Family Shelter, hosted by The Core Companies.
Parking: It may be difficult to park in the City Hall garage, so we advise participants to use the garage at San Fernando & 4th,
which is a block from City Hall. For either garage, the SJ Housing Department has offered to validate parking.
Josh Abrams (Baird + Driskell Community Planning) and Vu-Bang Nguyen (Silicon Valley Community Foundation) will
introduce the basics of affordable housing impact fees (residential and commercial) and provide updates on multi-city
nexus study processes occurring in San Mateo, Santa Clara and Alameda counties.
2) Housing 2.0 Symposium: Lunch and registration start at 11:00 AM. Program starts at 1:00 PM
Its time to solve the housing crisis together. Come to Housing 2.0 to hear how amazing innovators across sectors are trying to
change the housing system, to connect with other disruptors who want to be part of the solution, or to share your story of finding
housing in Silicon Valley. This is the beginning of a new way. And we want you to be part of it! A gathering to bring
together creative doers and thinkers, as well as new participants, to have a different conversation about solutions to Silicon
Valley's housing crisis, and to challenge conventional wisdom about what is possible to address this problem.
Housing 2.0 will include three "Disruption Huddles" moderated by Kim-Mai Cutler (TechCrunch), Nate Donato-
Weinstein (Silicon Valley Business Journal), and Rachael Myrow (KQED); interactive activities; and much more!
Tickets are free for all events! View the agenda and register here: http://bit.ly/1Ml370H

opened our doors with the hopes that we would become a healing
community for those who struggle with addiction, homelessness and
mental health challenges. Hoping for it is nothing compared to seeing it actually happening! We want to invite you to
see it up close as well at our annual Closing the Gap breakfast. We will take you into some of the healing moments in
peoples' lives at the breakfast. This year the heart of our program will be around the stories, the art, the poetry, and
music of our members. We'll have the usual fantastic breakfast provided by the Fairmont and will give you an update
on the impact we are having and new strategies we are planning to deepen that impact.

VOLUNTEER BUILD DAY
Organizer: Habitat for Humanity East Bay/ Silicon Valley
868 Delma Ave., San Jose
In partnership with the City of San Jose, Habitat for Humanity East
Bay/Silicon Valley is converting a vacant brownfield site into a new
affordable homeownership opportunity for a local family. The Delmas
Avenue development involves the construction of a single-family home on
an empty lot in a downtown neighborhood of San Jose. Habitat has off-
hauled the propertys pre-existing soil contamination in preparation for construction. The 3 bedroom, 2 bath home
will then be sold at an affordable price to a qualified low-income family.
Following the Habitat for Humanity model, construction of this home will be carried out by volunteers led by a
professional site supervisor. The future homeowners will contribute 500 hours of sweat equity, working alongside
volunteers. The affordable mortgage ensures that the homebuyers spend no more than 30-35% of their income on
housing costs.
Free. Please RSVP to cassandraw@firsthousing.org with your name, number of guests you plan to bring and your
affiliation (company name or connection to the property/housing week).
