Course Objectives: This course emphasizes on constructional details of automotive vehicles which includes Basic structure, engine, transmission systems,
suspension systems, steering system, braking systems and wheels & tyres.

Pre-requisites: Concepts of thermodynamics, machine design, material science, engineering mechanics

4. Basic engine design considerations, constructional details of C.I. and S.I. engines.

5. Manifolds, air cleaners, mufflers, radiators, and oil filters
2 Module II Transmission System 20% Weightage
Descriptors/Topics
1. Description and working of manually operated gearboxes like sliding mesh, constant
mesh
2. synchromesh and epicycle
3. hydraulic torque convertor and its construction working and performance,
4. sem-automatic and fully automatic transmission
5. Hydramatic transmission, analysis of differentials
6. live axles, construction working and requirements of overdrive.
3 Module III Steering System 20% Weightage
Descriptors/Topics
1. Introduction, Front axle, wheel alignment,
2. Steering geometry
3. steering mechanisms, Ackerman steering
4. Centre point steering, power steering.

4 Module IV Suspension 20% Weightage


Descriptors/Topics
1. Objective, requirement, function, types Shock absorbers
2. Independent suspension,
3. Stabilizer, air suspension
4. Hydroelastic suspension, Hydragas interconnected suspension.

5 Module V:- Brake 20% Weightage

Descriptors/Topics :-
1. Principle, braking requirements, brake efficiency,
2. fading of brakes
3. types of brakes
4. Bleeding of brakes, brake fluid.

Student Learning Outcomes:


On completion of the course the student will be able to:
1. An ability to apply scientific and technical knowledge
2. An ability to design and conduct experiments, and analyze experimental data.
3. An ability to use the relevant tools necessary for engineering practices.
4. The technical ability to design a prescribed engineering sub-system.
5. The ability to develop and assess alternative system designs based on technical and non-technical criteria
An ability to recognize and achieve high levels of professionalism in their work.

Pedagogy for Course Delivery:


The course pedagogy will include lectures, numerical practice, case studies, seminars and presentations. It also includes discussion on real life problems and
demonstrations of Time and work study, Work sampling, TPM practices and various maintenance strategies.
