Childrens Book: History Book: An Interactive Journey With 20 Removable Facsimile Documents
By: Marcus Cowper

How does the book connect to the objective being covered?

While this book does cover events from around the world, it gives a wonderful hands on
experience for students to understand the difference between primary and secondary sources.

Teaching Strategy/Activity and handout where appropriate:

A Personal time capsule activity would be a fun activity for USII.6a. This is an activity where you
can let your students find 4 primary sources and 4 secondary sources for their time capsule. In
addition, this activity could be a non-formal assessment to see if the students understand the
difference between the two types of sources! *You could also use a Pringles can as their
capsule!

A second activity could be on analysis of WII primary sources. These worksheets get the
students thinking about events in American history while learning to interpret and analyze.
Since these are high-level worksheets, I think the teacher and the students should work on
these together! (An example worksheet is attached)

Ways to differentiate SOL objectives for students with varying abilities:

A way to differentiate these SOL objectives for students with varying abilities is through the
materials necessary for the time capsule! For example, as one of their primary sources they
could write a bio of themselves including hair color, height, etc.! Thus, depending on their
ability the student could write a short essay or a bulleted list!
