Module 2
In the rhetorical triangle I have used all of the rhetorical appeals many times in my life.
The appeal I use the most is the pathos appeal, because when trying to persuade or even to
present an idea upon someone or an audience I like to appeal to peoples emotions. I find that
attempting to appeal to someones emotional side is a lot more successful in trying to gain the
trustworthiness or persuade them to your side of an argument. For my senior speech i made a
connection to a hardship I was going through at the time during a transition in my speech. The
reference that I made had helped me to gain the sympathy of my teacher, who then was moved
to tears once I was finished. My second favorite rhetorical appeal to use is logos. I have used
logos in my life a countless number of times with my friends. I use logos when I am around
friends because they seem to fail to adhere to the most logical thing to do at times, but we one
day had to calculate the best route to travel to the beach and how many cars we should take. As
an argument escalated I managed to form a quite convincing argument that managed to
persuade all of my friends because I was able to help them all understand through facts, and
statistics about gas prices and gas mileage. My least favorite, yet still highly effective rhetorical
appeal is ethos. I am not fond of the ethos appeal because it is not an appeal everyone may use
effectively because it requires one to have some form of credibility in or about the subject in
some way. I have used ethos in my life however, because in football I used the credibility of me
being on the varsity football team for four years as a reason for the younger players to listen to
me.
