Praxis Core Exam Analysis

Exam Requirements

From the requirements, I need to pass all three parts of the Praxis Core Exam in

order to be eligible to take my education courses at UNLV, UNR, or NSC for my

bachelors degree. The exam consists of Math, Reading, and Writing. The passing scores

are 150 for Math, 156 for Reading, and 162 for Writing.

Exam Preparation

For Math, I practiced by reviewing the Practice Praxis Exam I took in my Math

122. It helped me remembered most topics, such algebra, statistics and probability, and

formulas. However, I realized that I need more practice in the geometry questions. For

Writing, I did not review a lot because I was focused more on the writing part. I felt

prepared to be able to organize my ideas and write an essay. I have also been told by my

friend that after she took the writing, it was only an essay. However, I did see the whole

grammar part to the test. I was careful and took my time examining each line, but most

looked similar. For Reading, I was not sure how to practice for that since it is reading

passages and answering questions. The reading part of the exam is going to contain new

passages just like math. After taking the test, I did realize a pattern to the questions with

each containing a question of the main idea.

Exam Results

In Math, I scored a 70%, which means I am borderline to passing. In Writing, I

scored a 58%, which means I need significant improvement. In Reading, I scored a 39%,

which means I need significant improvement.

Future Exam Preparation

Im not too worried about the math and writing portion of the exam. I saw within

the test what I needed to improve on. For Math, I need to study more on the geometry

part of the test since that is my weakest side. I will review my math notes from Math 123.

However, for Reading, I know that I will need read the choices more carefully. I also

believe that there are factors that affect test taking. I should take the Reading test on a

separate day from Math and Writing, so I do not consume all my energy on one portion. I

know that after I finished the Math and Writing test, all my energy was drained when I

got to the Reading portion. I will also schedule an afternoon test because mornings are

harder for me to concentrate.
