Doctors Plan Strike, if Delhi Government Refuses to Restore Hospitals License.

New-born child mistaken for dead

Max Hospital in Delhi wrongfully declared a 22-weeks premature new-born child as dead. The baby
boy was discovered to be alive and breathing by his grandfather, during the funeral.

At this point, he was taken to Agarwal Nursing Home, but did not survive.

Kejriwals government Revokes Max Hospitals License

As a result, the government has cancelled the license of the hospital. A panel of three members decided
to shut it down, on grounds of negligence.

Inpatient and outpatient treatment facilities have been discontinued at the hospital. Use of the on-site
laboratory is not allowed. The abrupt stop to the hospitals activities has confounded people who have
related business to conduct here.

DMA Registers Protests with Government Authorities

The Delhi Medical Association (DMA) has written to the Chief Minister requesting him to re-instate
the hospitals license. They also want the two guilty doctors to return to the staff, until the official
report of Delhi Medical Council (DMC) is released.

Additonally they contacted Delhi Health Minister, Satyendar Jain with the latter request.

DMA Threatens Strike if Government doesnt go back on Decision

If the DMAs pleas fall on deaf ears, they vow to call all doctors for a strike. They believe that the
governments decision is unreasonable and authoritarian ; the entire hospital does not have to be
affected by one accident.

Max Hospital said that they were not given a chance to extend their explanations.

IMA Agrees with DMAs Stand on Issue

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) considers the governments actions harsh too ; saying if
penalties are handed as freely, then healthcare will grind to a standstill.

IMA gave support to Max Hospital.
