a) Load all parts (Column, Beam, Brace etc) properties and Save as with required modification
according to PTS (Project Technical Specification).

b) Modify Start number & Assembly prefix as per Client STD.

c) Select profile sizes from Tekla Inbuilt option using SELECT option. Do not modify standard
profiles after selecting from existing data. This will modify unit weight of the profile.

B. Modeling
1. Grid Placement:-

a) Modify the existing grid as per the dimensions given on contract dwg. After completion of
Grid Placement Save Grid Properties including Project name & date e.g. STANFORD
OVERLOOK DEC-17.

9/17

MODELING PROCEDURE

b) Lock grid properties after completion of grid placement using user-defined attributes.

c) After completion of grids, submit Grid E-plan for Checking.

2. Member Placement:-

a) Place Beam & other horizontal Members Left to Right & Bottom to Top
b) For Column placement always set the rotation Top or Back on position tab.
c) For Beam placement use Top on position tab.
d) For Finish information refer mapping plan/PTS or discuss with project manager.

MODELING PROCEDURE

e) If Part representation is fast while doing member placement then Switch off the
Geometric points Snap .

f) For Angle placement, working point should be on edge of angle.

g) For Channel placement, working point should be on back of channel.

l) For Loose members cut length follow as per clients standard or discuss with Project
manager if it differs from client standards.
m) After completion of Member placement make sure all the members have appropriate phase
no.
n) While using Copy-translate command make sure you have filled required values in dX, dY &
dZ fields. Dont copy any part by keeping these three values 0. Make sure that you have
filled required no. in Number of copies field.

o) Give Start No. -9999999 for dummy material. So that all dummy things will take same
Assembly Position no.

3. Connections:-

a) Load connection properties in macro as marked on mapping plan and apply the connection
as per the connection code marked on the mapping plan.
b) For connections not available in library, load relevant existing properties & modify as per
mapping plan. Save modified connection properties with different connection code. Make

sure the connection property name & connection code(specified in connection code field of
general tab)should be same.
c) For slotted hole in connection dont put any value in the field highlighted in the picture
below. Use this field to provide oversized hole. To change the direction of slotted hole use
options parallel, odd, even in Rotate Slots field.

d) Ask to concerned Project Manager if connection parts requires any specific name.
e) Inquire assembly after applying a connection or after applying weld between two parts, to
ensure all connection parts has been attached to related assemblys main part.
f) Run clash check after applying a set of connection to avoid clash mistakes and insufficient
bolting clearance.
g) Report to Tekla administrator, if any manual non-standard connection frequency is more in
model. So that Parametric Custom component can be made for that particular connection to
reduce modeling time.
h) Dont do any manual modification in an unexploded connection macro. If any modification is
not achievable within macro, ask to Tekla Administrator/Sr. Modeler before exploding
Macro.

4. Bolts:-

a) For Slotted Hole Creation Dont Put the value in Slotted hole X field. To Change the slot
direction use options Parallel, even or odd in front of Rotate Slots Field.

12/17

b) For slotted hole make sure you have not ticked all the options. Provide tick according to
slotted hole requirement (in which part slot to be provided).Dont provide extra washer
unless specified in the connection or directed by concerned Project Manager.

c) To show galvanized bolt put Galvanized in Bolt User Field 1 in user-defined-attributes of

bolt or as specified by the concerned Project Manager

d) After creation of bolt, Select the bolt & inquire bolt parts to ensure with which part that bolt
should go.
