(Teaching Methods for the Primary School Teacher)

Task Description

Observe your MSTs classroom and general practices you see around the school. Discuss the areas
below in context of what you observe in school and support with photos to show evidence of your
observations, and a reference to reading when possible.

Describe the classroom environment. (Photo) Consider how the class is a print rich
environment. What print can you see around the room? (Labels, captions, flashcards,
headings, rules, instructions, timetable, flash cards, etc.). For each one you mention insert
pictures and state the purpose of each one.

In this photo the teacher displays all student work, because when the parents come to ask the teacher about
their child grade he shows them his work, and to discuss the child grade with improvement.

here the high frequency words in many levels that every student should all knows, the teacher give them a
test for every level if they pass it will pass the level.

Describe the reading area in your classroom. What genres of books are there and how are
they displayed? (Photo)
In this teaching practice I did the and designs the reading area, first I sort the books depends
on the levels of the students then I chose five of them and I attach them together then I put
them in the reading board. There are more than 100 book, some of them easy for low level
student, middle level student and high level student.
Describe a phonics lesson you observed. How does the teacher teach word attack skills to
children? Mention how the children are scaffolder to recognize the word and get the
meaning?
My MST teach the student phonics by song of sounds song then he shows the cards
represent the letters and they should to identify the letter. Teachers give children plenty of
practice before moving to the next letter. the child will read short, easy books, containing the
particular letter sounds or words the child working on.
Consider different reading approaches have you observed? (Guided reading, Shared
Reading, Sustained Silent Reading). Choose 2 and describe how the teacher implements
these approaches in the class in detail. (Photos, and refer to EPR 2603)
Consider seating arrangement, participation, comprehension, reading strategies in your
discussion.
My MST in reading lessons he was employment the book in the computer and he open the
voice and turn it on to let the student listing and follow the audio. After that he tell them to
read the questions and answer it.
Describe some types of writing activities or the method the teacher uses for writing e.g.
emergent writing, copy writing, dictations, etc.
The most method he uses is copy writing, first he discusses the answers with the student then
he writes the right answers then the students copy what he wrote.
High level student they can write their own answers, then the teacher checks their answers if
there are anything wrong he tells them to change it.
After the Task - Reflection
Choose 3 best practices you observed during your time in school. Reflect on these and consider why
you would implement these in a UAE primary classroom in the future. Explain how these practices
will affect student learning and reading levels in a primary class.
the most activities student like it is Sparkle, its spilling words game shows teacher if student study the spilling
word for this week or no. student like this game because they start to competing between each other about whos
will write whole word correct, the teacher chooses 4 students to write one word every student write one letter if the
student write the letter incorrect all student says sparkle, student who write the letters correct, the teacher gives
them point in class Dojo. when I plan a lesson, I use musical because I open for student a song song of sounds
part 1 and they were acting with the song so they were use their muscles to move, also when I give every center a
work to do there were a group listing to song of sound part2. Teacher can support learning by gave them a
reward, positive reinforcement student more likely to repeat positive behavior again (B.F. skinner, 1948) or at
least stickers, this will let student to do more and to study more to have positive thing from teacher also to show
their teacher they can to be a successful student. All materials teacher use its fun materials let student to play, have
fun and study in the same time, such as song of sounds bingo board, all student like this game because they sing,
play and learn. In the end of the lesson teacher always ask student about what they doing in their centers, did they
find it easy-ok-hard and why, this let teacher know if student able to do harder than this or its difficult for them.
Every teacher does incorporate a variety of learning styles to let student enjoy the lesson also because student they
will not feel bored from the activities. Teacher can improve student learning styles by let student to do what he
wants but in learning way, also teacher should not coercion student to do what teacher want because student will
hate the lesson and the teacher. Teacher also should know every student learning style to help them in their study
and to do for them a range activities student like it.
