Economic constraints

As the transmission system has expanded over the years, surplus capacity available on
transmission lines always seems to be consumed as the system grows or as transmission users find more
economical ways of meeting system demands. Expansion leads to more usage that leads to more
expansion. Transmission congestion results when a particular electricity transmission path cannot
accommodate increased power flow. Although the reasons for congestion vary, the common consequence
is that increased power flow on a particular transmission path is not possible without risking system
reliability.

Formula

Material cost + Erection cost = total installed cost

Where:

Material cost = total ground wire used + total insulators + total sub conductors

Erection cost = price of land per sq. meter + man hour required

Where:

Activities

a. Right of way
b. Land disturbance
c. Transmission line system roads
d. Soil borings
e. Staging areas
f. Site preparation
g. Erect support structures
h. Cleanup and site reclamation
i. Communication system
j. Communication sites
k. Access road
