SANITARY SEWERAGE

1. General

a) Ladders shall be fabricated from stainless steel or aluminum, as shown


on the Contract Drawings.

b) The ladder assembly shall be rated for a minimum of 2200 N.

2. Stainless Steel Ladders

a) Ladders including all brackets, fixings and fasteners shall be fabricated


from AISI Type 316L stainless steel. They shall be installed where and
as shown on the Contract Drawings.

3. Aluminum Ladders

a) Ladders, brackets and hardware shall be constructed of welded


aluminum in conformance with the requirements OSHA.

b) Rails shall be 10 by 63 mm spaced a minimum of 400 mm apart.

c) Rungs shall be 35 mm in diameter and have a non-slip surface.

d) Standoffs shall offset the ladder 180 mm from the wall.

2.06 IDENTIFICATION LABELS

A. Valves, meters and equipment shall be each fitted with an identification labels of the
size 50 x 80 mm constructed from 2 mm brass sheet engraved in 10 mm high
lettering in both Arabic and English with the words "WASTE WATER."

B. The Arabic lettering shall be 1.5 times as high as the English and the style of Arabic
lettering shall be in "NASKH" characters.

2.07 MARKER POSTS

A. The Contractor shall provide marker posts with indicator plates as detailed on the
Contract Drawings.

B. The marker posts shall be provided generally not less than 200 m apart, located at all
changes in direction, adjacent to all line and outlet valves from the main transmission
line, and at all dead ends.

C. Unless required otherwise by the Royal Commission, the marker posts shall be
provided only in the industrial areas.

D. Top of pipeline elevations shall be indicated on all markers.

2.08 WARNING TAPE

A. The Contractor shall provide warning tape to be laid in all trenches above each utility

main transmission line and services as shown on the Contract Drawings.

B. The tape shall be of polyethylene, PVC or other plastic material. For all sewerage
pipes and mains, the tape color shall be red. For electric power supplies, the tape
color shall be yellow.

C. The tape shall be detectable above all non-metallic mains, except in specifically
approved circumstances.

D. The tape shall be 300 mm in width, 150 m thickness and shall be obtained from an
approved supplier.

E. A continuous warning message shall be repeatedly imprinted on the tape surface


with durable black letters of 50 mm height in Arabic and English alternately;
"CAUTION: BURIED SEWER LINE BELOW" for sewer pipes and mains, and
"CAUTION: BURIED ELECTRIC LINE BELOW" for power supplies.

2.09 AUTOMATIC AIR RELEASE VALVES

A. Sewage air and vacuum valves shall allow unrestricted venting or re-entry of air
during filling or draining of the force main to prevent water separation or pipeline
collapse due to vacuum.

B. The valve shall be specifically adapted for use with sewage and shall be installed as
indicated on the Contract Drawings.

C. The sewage air and vacuum valves shall incorporate one upper and one lower
stainless steel float, connected by a common stainless steel float guide, thereby
maintaining an air gap between the bottom float and top shut off float.

D. The air gap shall retard waste solids from fouling or clogging the top shut-off float.

E. All internal parts shall be stainless steel or bronze. The internal baffle shall be fitted
without distortion for tight shut-off. All internals shall be easily removed thru the top
cover without removing the main valve from the lines.

F. Valve body shall be constructed of iron. Valve ratings shall be as shown on the
Contract Drawings.

2.10 VALVE BOXES

A. Valve boxes shall be cast iron or concrete, as shown on the Contract Drawings.

B. Cast iron boxes shall be the extension type with slide type adjustment and with flared
base. The minimum thickness of metal shall be 5 mm.

C. The box length shall be adaptable, without full extension, to the depth of cover over
the pipe at the valve locations.

D. Concrete boxes shall be the standard product of a manufacturer of precast concrete


equipment.

E. Warning Tape

1. After initial hydrostatic test is accepted by the Royal Commission, warning tape
shall be installed at 300 mm above the top of the pipe. The following, as
applicable, shall be printed on the tape in both Arabic and English, in durable
black letters of 50 mm height.
