Prosperity isnt reached facilely, people
must maintain a positive mindset that
will guide them to their success. People
such as, Danica Ybanez a 24 year old
fashion designer that has been pros-
perous in her vocation for over five
years, has shown tenacity throughout
the years leading to her success. In the
book Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell,
Gladwell describes the characteristics,
habits, and personality traits of several
individuals who become successful
Growing up, Danica always kenned
she wanted to be a designer she was
inspired by the show Project Run-
way. She considered the designers
her idols. Her parents were skeptical
on her desired occupation, they both
were not involved at first and wanted
Danica to major in a different career.
They considered designers as people
who did not prosper or magnify it in
the industry, they both never under-
stood the love Danica had towards this
career. This negativity did not bring
Danicas conceptions down, she wanted
to show her parents and friends the
commenced her own fashion club in
her junior year of high school, only
three people signed up. Danica still
had a positive perspective for her fu-
ture, she is the type of person to never
give up even after the third try. In her
fashion club she would design prom
looks for fun, since her club was small
they would meet once a week for an
hour. During this time, fashion design
was not as popular as it is now. She was
one of the few people at her school that
wanted to pursue this career, many of
her classmates did not see this al opti-
cally discerned this vocation as a path
to an unsuccessful life. Danica was
determined, she was not going to stop
here by engendering her club, she was
tenacious to get her club noticed by the
school FIDM. FIDM (Fashion Insti-
tute Of Designing and Merchandising)
is a school in Los Angeles, this was her
dream school and was involved in the
FIDM school activities since she lived
in Los Angeles. Danica advertised her
club and mentioned FIDM to her club
members, as weeks passed by her club
grew dramatically with more than one
hundred sign ups. She was able to get a
scholarship by her dream school. With
all the strenuous exertion Danica put
in, she got a two year scholarship to
FIDM after graduating.
In chapter four, The Trouble With
Geniuses Part 2, As Gladwell explains
They acted as though they had a right
to prove their own individual prefer-
ences and to actively manage inter-
actions in institutional settings. They
appeared comfortable in those setting;
they were open to school sharing
information and asking for attention
(Gladwell 105). Danica did not wait
for these opportunities to come to her,
she pursued her dreams for being able
to get noticed by FIDM and so she did
achieve this goal. This chapter withal
discusses about Chris Langan, Langan
was not prosperous due to not being

in 1971. Bill Gates got to deal real
time programming as an eighth
grader in 1968 (Gladwell 51). Bill
Joy had an amazing opportunity
to begin to learn how to program
computers at a young age. This gave
him a jump start to his success. He
practiced for years and because of
this Bill Joy had many experience.
This sentence is similar to Danica,
working with famous designers.
This also gave her an experience to
work on fashion shows and creating
designs. After this internship she
was experienced on how fashion
shows work as well as designers
working during fashion week. Both
these different opportunities for Bill
Joy and Danica Ybanez gave them
knowledge and experience at a
young age, to help them succeed.
Being able to go to FIDM brought
other life changing opportunities
for Danica. She was able to get in
contact with big companies in the
fashion industry as well as com-
panies getting in contact with her.
After her internship Danica had
a fear of not being successful and
failing. She has put hard work into
her career, but she still had the
negative thoughts her parents told
her when she was younger. Soon
after, clothing companies such as
Anthropologie, Macys, Nordstrom,
and other popular clothing stores
asked her to design limited editions
clothing items. Her many talents
and work for the fashion house
became a high sensation with the
well known lifestyle brand Anthro-
pologie. Danica has wonderful cre-
ativity skills, leading to Disneyland
contacting her to work with them
designing costumes for a movie
called Disney Descendants. Also
working with buzzfeed allowed her
to share her diys and being able friends and family, Danica also had
to be more open to the camera by determination to grow successful
creating videos with them. Dan- on her own and learning experienc-

companies and now owns her own experience, and location were es-

high school students to share their
creativity and to also help start their

Another connection to Danica is
the factors in life whom develop
a persons success.which is also
described in chapter two. Glad-
well claims, Their success was not
just of their own making. It was a
product of the world in which they
grew up (Gladwell 67). Having
FIDM close to where Danica lived
in highschool brought many advan-
tages. Shed always have commu-
nications with students who went
to the school FIDM. This quote is
significant to her success because
as described by Danica, LA is a city
full of opportunities. Los Angeles
was ands still is huge in the in-
dustry, many creative people who
want to major in this career have
opportunities to go to this import-
ant fashion school. FIDM gives free
workshops for students who live
around the area planning to major
in the fashion industry.
Danica conitunes to be sucessful
today and she continues to grow as
a fashion industry. Danica still has
goals to accomplish in the future.
