To Whom It May Concern:

In my geography class, I once watched a movie based on the genocide happening down in Rwanda, Africa.
Families went as far as suicide with their children in order to avoid being killed. There were so many bodies,
people began driving over them because they filled the streets. They were unable to escape. My name is Ryane
Abigail Carramanzana and I am a current student at Antelope High School. I am 15 years old, and a sophomore.
After watching that movie based on what was happening in Rwanda, and learning about the Holocaust, refugees
should be able to come into the United States, no matter what race or religion, without having to worry about
the amount of time it will take.

Currently, Syria is experiencing a war, and has been since March of 2011. Over 11.5% of the countrys
population [has] been killed or injured, and it will continue to rise as the war goes on (Black). On top of that,
50,000 people had fled the north in an attempt to escape the violence going on (Black). The United Nations
have attempted to get involved and have peace talks in Geneva, but are unlikely to do so without a
significant shift of policy, meaning Syria will most likely continue to be at a state of war.

The crisis today is similar to the WWII crisis as both situations are requiring citizens to leave due to violence
within their country. Similar to the Holocaust, there is once again anxiety about whether to admit refugees to
the U.S. (Associated Press). However, they are mainly different as Jews [are] not trying to carry out attacks
on civilians where the Syrians are being attacked by the Islamic State group (Associated Press).

I personally agree with the idea of accept[ing] 10,000 Syrian refugees as it would be saving lives and giving
Syrians a chance against the war going on. I disagree with the fact that the government wants to stop this
because we denied the Jews from coming into America and it ended up with a high death toll. Accepting
refugees would help our economy, as they would take over jobs that citizens of America do not want due to low
pay, and we have a modernized security so the chance of terrorists would be low and unlikely.

Overall, because of what has happened in the past, and how many deaths there are, I believe we should accept
refugees into the country. The death toll will only rise, and nearly half of a quarter of Syrias population was
killed, and more injured. America does not have to necessarily get involved in the war, but if we open our
borders for refugees to seek freedom, it will benefit more than it will not. Thank you for taking the time to read,
and I hope you will take my letter into consideration.

Sincerely,

Ryane Abigail Carramanzana
