History
EXL was co-founded in 1999 by Vikram Talwar after serving as the Country Manager, India
at Bank of America with Rohit Kapoor.
EXL has been described as being part of the "fourth wave of BPO start-ups" in India,
characterized by backing from American venture capitalists experimenting with remote
service delivery.
In August 2001, Conseco acquired EXL and operated it as a wholly owned subsidiary. In
2002, Oak Hill Capital Partners and FTVentures acquired the company from Conseco making
it as third party pure-play business process outsourcing service provider. The company stock
started trading on the NASDAQ exchange on October 20, 2006 under the symbol EXLS.

EXL has offices in US (Headquarters), UK, India, Philippines, Czech Republic, Romania,
Bulgaria, Colombia, Australia and South Africa. The majority of its staff are employed in

EXL expanded into Latin America through a strategic joint venture with CT&S through
which EXL's technology experience would be combined with CT&S's local knowledge and
brand image. This joint venture also supported the growing customer base of EXL for
Spanish language services.

As of 2013, EXL was one of the three companies offering business process outsourcing
services and listed on stock exchanges in the United States, the other two
being Genpact and WNS Global Services. WNS started trading in the United States in July
2006, three months before EXL joined the NASDAQ exchange.
As of 2017, EXLs primary competitors are: Genpact, WNS, Accenture, Cognizant, Wipro
and, Sutherland Global Services. In Analytics and Consulting the primary competitors are
MU Sigma and Latent View Analytics. Further, in Advanced Automation & Robotics UiPath
is the primary competition.

EXL announced on October 3rd, 2017, the appointment of Phillip J. (PJ) Kaputa as Senior
Vice President, Head of Global Corporate Development for EXL. n this role, Kaputa will be
responsible for sourcing, evaluating and executing M&A transactions as EXL aims to
increase the amount of capital it deploys on acquisitions in order to expand EXLs
capabilities and its leadership position in key domains such as digital and analytics, and core
industries such as insurance and healthcare.
EXL announced on September 12th, 2017, that its wholly-owned subsidiary primarily
responsible for the operations of its Healthcare business unit has achieved accreditation in
utilization management (UM) from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), a
non-profit organization dedicated to improving healthcare quality.
