Introduction

Everything is always created twice, first in the mind and then in reality.

The knowledge of a student gained from the college professors are not enough when only
learned by pure imagination. That is why an internship or the so-called OJT (On-the-Job
Training) is created. The program also aims to provide worthy potential employees for
employers to source work from, helping both employer and employee in their success. On-the-
job training is valuable where realism is essential. Students are required to complete such hours
of training. It is a particularly good way of developing technical skills and expertise. During on-
the-job training, a supervisor guides the trainee through tasks and processes for them to know
how to perform the obligation and to what standard. Typically, the supervisor observes the
trainees while they perform their duties. After observation, the observer provides the trainees
with feedback on their performance. For a company or an organization who willingly accept a
student trainee, OJT program provides them additional manpower without expecting salary to
pay back. Student trainees can bring fresh ideas, and if even given such opportunity to speak
their minds freely, they may be able to contribute significantly in brainstorming sessions that will
possibly help for the productivity of the company. As for the OJT program for Retail
Management, the students would be trained technically in their field of interest. This provides
opportunities to go through the actual methodologies of a specific job. In effect, this will
certainly lead them for their professional growth and development. Generally, while training the
interns, supervisors are in fact also teaching the process of guiding the trainees stretches their
patience, develops engineering skills and makes them more sensitive to the needs and mind set of
the younger generation. The course of supervision also teaches them how to share what they
know and be receptive to questions. Hence, the internship also becomes an avenue in training for
future employees and managers.

5
Objective

On the Job Training was introduced by the Centre for Retail as part of the course to give us
hands on experience about the retail store operation. It targets those who have finished first
trimester of the college and are looking for some practical knowledge, whilst still need of skill
building. This will allow them to stand a real chance in the incredibly competitive jobs market.
Training offers the young people that work with the scheme to adopt their own ways of coping
with the working world and its demands. With this training process the value added has been
great to a retail student. The knowledge gained at the Reliance Trends store has been completely
relevant and gave us an understanding of what the industry holds for us.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

Customer Service desk is a communications center that provides a single point of contact also
known as SPOC between a company and its customers.
The purpose of a customer service desk is to ensure that a customer receive appropriate help in a
timely manner. As the customer may have some product issue, they expect a companys service
department to resolve their issues.

While performing the tasks on CSD, I observe some basic problems which a customer faces on
day to day basis:

Bill Misplaced
Personal Item has been lost like wallet, mobile, key chain, pen drive
Alteration issue
Shrinkage

To maintain the record of these issues /problems there are certain registers which are needed to
be maintained like Credit Note Register, Alteration Register, Gift Issue Register and Defective
Items Register.

Many more tasks are also performed by the customer service desk executive such as Generation
of Credit Note, Alteration Procedure Issuing the Discounted Coupons.

INVENTORY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Inventory is sent by the Head office to the store according to the size of the store. 30% excess
stock is sent to the store in case if the uncertainty takes places this extra stock can be taken into
use otherwise it automatically becomes the closing stock which is around 30 %

24
GOODS RECEIPT NOTE

Acts as internal proof of goods received to process and match against your supplier
invoices/purchase orders.

GRN PROCESS

Is done on the basis of

1. Goods received from DC (In-house)
2. Goods received from vendor (external brands)

Goods received from DC (in-house)

Invoice comes through the DC is called delivery
Trip number is received by site through DC
SAP (SYSTEM ANALYSIS PROGRAM) is a software in which GRN is done
After opening SAP command is given for GRN then we have to click on vendor then DC after
clicking on DC trip no is generated then after saving trip no outbound is done through 2 ways
Manually total price *total quantity
Per pieces scanning of individually pieces
After scanning merchandise we check whether the stock is complete or incomplete if it is ok then
execute post then after this GRN is generated
Which is of 10 digit it is one of the important number for tracking

Goods received from vendor (external brands)

Vendor sent good through particular invoice no on which everything is mentioned for eg invoice
no invoice date purchase order no Now we have to create trip no against PON which we sent to
vendor

25
For creating trip no we used to fill a summary in which we have to mention some essential
information such as

Vehicle no, through courier or transport, GST tin no, invoice amount, will bay no, then ctrl save
then system generate trip no through which we can do GRN.

BACK OF HOUSE

Back of house refers to the work which is done by the staff regarding entries GRN, accounts, etc.
Back of house also includes Inventory Management where the stock from external brands and
private labels are being stored and managed. There are certain documents which are need to be
verified before receiving the stock:

Purchase Order, Invoice, E-way, bill, Date of issue, Assessment, Office, Name of dealer,
