I. Introduction

Communication is easily overlooked, but the ability to communicate effectively is

necessary to carry out the thoughts and visions of an organization to the people. The

importance of speech and words whether through a paper, a voice, or computer is a

communication medium to convey directions and provide synchronization. Without

communication, there is no way to express thoughts, ideas and feelings.

There are many ways to provide communication from the organization to the people of

your community. Whether through a phone, fax, email, letter, website, instant message

softwares, social networking websites (facebook, twitter, myspace) and etc you are able to

communicate your organization to the world. Things can be expressed, ideas can be shared,

and thoughts can be joined.

The ability and the importance of communication become much more crucial when you

are on a mission or need to fulfill a goal. Without a means to communicate, your organization

will become isolated. The ability to effectively communicate is very important when it is

usually underestimated and overlooked.

Communication is a necessity as we use it to network, spread ideas, and promote.

Communicate effectively through well known mediums and convey it simply and precisely.

The importance of communication is crucial to the success of your organization because you

need to reach out in order to fulfill your mission.

II. Design Concepts

The way a network operates is to connect computers and peripherals using two pieces of

equipment - switches and routers. These two let the devices connected to your network talk with

each other as well as talk to other networks.

Though they look quite similar, routers and switches perform very different functions in a

network:

Switches are used to connect multiple devices on the same network within a building or

campus. For example, a switch can connect your computers, printers and servers, creating a

network of shared resources. The switch would serve as a controller, allowing the various

devices to share information and talk to each other. Through information sharing and resource

allocation, switches save you money and increase productivity.

There are two basic types of switches: managed and unmanaged.

o An unmanaged switch works out of the box and does not allow you to make

changes. Home-networking equipment often will have unmanaged switches.

o A managed switch allows you access to program it. This provides greater

flexibility because the switch can be monitored and adjusted locally or remotely to give you

control on how traffic travels over the network and who has access to your network.

Routers are used to tie multiple networks together. For example, you would use a router

to connect your networked computers to the Internet and thereby share an Internet connection

among many users. The router will act as a dispatcher, choosing the best route for your

information to travel so that you receive it quickly.

Routers analyse the data being sent over a network, change how it is packaged and send it to

another network or over a different type of network. They connect your business to the outside

world, protect your information from security threats, and can even decide which computers

get priority over others.

Depending on your business and your networking plans, you can choose from routers that

include different capabilities. These can include functions such as:

o Firewall: specialized software that examines incoming data and protects your

business network against attacks

o Virtual Private Network (VPN): A way to allow remote employees to safely

access your network remotely

o IP Phone network : Combine your company's computer and telephone network,

using voice and conferencing technology, to simplify and unify your communications

The floor plan is presented above. The different departments are connected to the MIS

department which supplies the internet connections. Each PC that the department would be

using will be connected to the switch through a UTP cable in a raceway, and each switch will

then be connected to the switch of the MIS department. The connection of each department

to connect to the MIS department will use a raceway that will pass through a hole. The hole

will be drilled underground to provide organize and clean wiring of the design.

IX. Conclusion & Recommendation

Conclusion

The proponents used variable length subnet masking in this case study to limit the cost of

the budget for the design proposal. Switches were the only intermediary devices used, another

way to lessen the expense of the proposal. Though routers were not considered, still the aim of

the proposal still served its purpose. The proponents did not only consider the cost but also the

flexibility of the network provided that it is reasonable.

In generalization, this case study helped the proponents how to handle network design

and also to maximize every equipment that is used. It was properly done for the convenience of

the users especially those person that is under the school institution. Moreover, the proponents

thought a way on how the design will be effective at its economical manner.

Recommendation

The group would like to recommend to maximize the use of the switches that are being used

in these design. The department with excess host should be paired or be set up near with other

departments that can still accommodated within the switch to lessen the cost of the project.

The other proponents may also try to set the design so that one departments may ping other

departments. And they may consider on having a standard for using the devices included so that

the design may have uniform specifications.
