The Education Undergraduate Society arranges and provides Professional Development


workshops for education students at the University of Lethbridge. This letter is written at the
request of Mitchel Fletcher who attended the following seminars during the months of
September, October, and November of 2017:

Leonard Sproule: What Every Grade 5-9 Teacher Should Know About Career and Technology
Foundations (CTF)
At this PD Session, participants will learn about exciting new learning opportunities for grades 5 through
9 in Career and Technology Foundations (CTF). Learn how schools are implementing CTF, how
teachers are co-designing learning projects with students, and how teachers are assessing competency-
based outcomes. After this session, you will have the resources and beginners know-how needed to move
towards CTF.

Jenna Lowe: Teaching Shakespeare- How to Create an Enriching Experience for you and your
Students
You probably had strong feelings about your experience with Shakespeare in school: you either loved it
or hated it. You may even have strong opinions on whether studying The Bard should still be required in
the Program of Studies. In this session, Jenna will attempt to bring some resolution to the debate and all
the typical related emotions by examining why and how teaching Shakespeare can be a wildly enriching
and energizing experience for you and your students. After all, There is nothing either good or bad, but
thinking makes it so.

Aaron Stout: Highschool Redesign


A move towards preparing students to be active, engaged and successful participants in an increasingly
knowledge-based and globalized society is a step many Alberta High schools are taking. Join Aaron in
discussing what Highschool Redesign stands for, and how it hopes to revolutionize our teaching
practices.

ATA: Teacher Wellness


This workshop asks, How can teachers learn to take greater responsibility for their personal and
professional wellness to ensure that they have the capacity to help others? Teachers will reflect upon
their current state of wellness and consider approaches to improve their health and well-being. The
interrelationship of the physical, emotional, social and psychological states will be explored and ideas for
making informed choices about improving quality of life will be shared.- Alberta Teachers Association
Kristina Larkin and David Fuller: Working with Newcomers
As our classrooms and communities continue to become more diverse both among students and among
teachers who reflect their classrooms we learn to make our learning communities safer and more
welcoming. Connect with Kristina Larkin, Manager of Youth Settlement Services and Dave Fuller, ESL
Lead Teacher of Lethbridge School District 51, to learn more about the make-up of todays global
classrooms, and the resources and relationships that can make working with these students more
meaningful!

Ever Active Schools: Health and Wellness Initiatives in Schools


Ever Active Schools is an initiative that assists school communities in creating healthy school
communities. Through fostering social and physical environments that support improving the health and
learning outcomes of students in Alberta. Join Brian Torrance as he discusses an overview of
comprehensive school health and dig down into some specific health and wellness initiatives in schools.
