Parvin Karimi and Reza Vahdini Sanavi, authors for the article Karimi, Parvin & Sanavi,

Reza. (2014). Analyzing English Language Learning Needs among Students in Aviation
Training Program are researcher from Roudehen Branch ELT Department of Islamic Azad
University, Tehran, Iran. Parvin and Reza (2014) described research findings that English
Language play an important role for communication in the international level regardless in any
fields such as science, commerce and technology. The purpose of study is to find the present
and future English language needs of the students in Aviation Training Program for English
for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses.

The other article is describes on the needs analysis on English language use in tourism
industry development which is written by an author named Nawamin Prachanant. English act
as a medium of interaction which plays a crucial role a countrys economy especially Thailand
which depend tourism industry as its main income. Therefore, improvement on English
language communication among tourism employees is necessary in order to increase the
quality of tourism industry of Thailand companies.

There are few related articles about this topic which described the needs analysis exert
influence on an individual in educational life at the time of studying and their future life. Those
who are teaching must know or aware the needs of their students about their ESP courses.
Besides, the needs analysis will improve the content of the course which will be more relevant
to the students needs. Some of the researchers found in their research that there are needs in
oral content in needs assessment. Thus, this research done by Parvin Karimi and Reza Vahdini
Sanavi is to find out the needs and perception of pilot students about their research topic.

In the other hand, the research conducted was study on the needs and difficulties faced
by several tourism employees on English language. The findings of the research will provide
the requirements of the language in this industry, its functions to the working field and
problems faced by employees toward English application. The method used is the process to
obtain data through frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation regarding the
functions and efficiency of English language skill set on tourism industry developments.

The research of needs analysis of Aviation students was performed in Mahan Air
Aviation Training Center in 2013 which involved 20 undergraduate students, 5 instructors, and
15 graduate students. Participants were given out a questionnaire, structured interview and
semi- structured interview to have triangulation. Participants will be asked about the needs of
four skills which are speaking, listening, writing, and reading in their textbooks for the first
part while the second part will acquire extract professional needs of the students. Meanwhile,
the last part is to discover if students opinion on their ESP courses. The aim in interviewing
the graduate students is to find out which aspect or part of the English language is lacking and
need to improve.

Meanwhile, for the other article the target scope for the research is mainly on 40
tourism employees consist of 22 males and 18 females participants that are working in five
different tourism venues located in Thailand. Questionnaire is the instrument used to obtain the
data regarding the functions, needs and difficulties faced by tourism employees. A draft of it
was initially made before it was actually distributed by the researcher aided by two English
language instructor and a statistic specialist. Then, pilot study consist of 15 subjects were
conducted to determine the draft language structures and its contents which are either to be
included or discarded. Next, the draft is completely being administrated to the target group
after the permission request letter which was sent beforehand to the tour companies was
approved. Lastly, obtained data was analyzed after the data collection process was carried out
in the period of 4 months from February to May.

Both researches use the same methodologies which was using questionnaire. In order
to solve a problem or improve courses, giving out questionnaires is one of the most effective
way to overcome the problems. This is because in by using questionnaires, there will be a lot
of candidates or respondents we can asked to instead of using other method such as interview.
Through questionnaires we can plot graph which will show the pattern of graph and we can
detect in which part our courses or problem is the most lacking. Besides, by using questionnaire
we can attain recommendations and this will make it easier to improve courses and problem
solving.

For the first article, the results of idea of textbooks should have listening
comprehension needs indicate that, the highest percentage which was 45% strongly agree with
needs of listening while only 5% which was only 1 out of 20 participants disagree with this
idea. The choices of slightly agree and agree hold a ratio of 2:8 students responded to this idea.
As for speaking, majority of the students believe in need of speaking in their textbook but 4%
of students disagree of this idea. 57% percent students strongly agree to this idea while 33%
and 6% are agree and slightly agree of this idea respectively. Both listening and speaking chi-
square test run indicate the differences observed in both table are significant. This conclude
that the students of Mahan Air Aviation Training Center believe that listening and speaking
comprehension are in need in their textbooks.

Meanwhile for the reading comprehension, 0% students oppose the idea of reading
comprehension needs in textbook. 50% students vote for agree while 40% and10% vote for
strongly agree and slightly agree respectively. The result obtained conclude all students had
the same opinion about this idea. Due to the low number of items related to the reading
comprehension needs, the result of the chi- square test show that the differences observed for
this idea are not significant.

Results for writing showed that 90% students accept the idea of writing needs should
be met through the textbooks. The ratio of strongly agree, agree, and slightly agree are 7:8:3
students respectively. The balance 2 students vote for slightly disagree to the idea that
textbooks must cover students writing needs. The chi-square results showed that the
differences observed are not significant. This results might due to the low number of items
related to the writing needs.

Meanwhile, for the second article, the findings of analysis conducted shows that the
rating of English language skill set applied by the tourism employees in their work prove that
speaking skill is the most important skill followed by listening, reading and writing skills.
Speaking skill is highly regarded as employees need to guide, interact and communicate with
the tourists regarding the visited attractions. The problems faced by employees regarding
English language application are separated into four classifications. Firstly, speaking
difficulties faced is caused by inability of employees to use appropriate wording and
expressions as they interact with tourists with the highest score of 52.2%. Meanwhile, the
problem is listening which commonly referring to the accents uses by foreigners that are
difficult to understand with score of 65% of the participants agreement. Furthermore, listening
is important as it is the key factor that leads tourism employees to understand the things that
the foreign tourists would need and want when they ask for tourism information.

Reading skills is regarded as a third needed skill as foreign tourists tend ask for more
in-depth information about the tourist attractions. Thus, by having 45% of the participants
having inadequate vocabulary can cause serious problem in reading skill as employees unable
to understand written details and outlines. Lastly, the factor of writing problems is influenced
by the lack of grammar knowledge which score 40% of the participants. Writing is the least
important compared with the other three skills. This is due to fact that writing is only used
when tourist employees prepare and outline the information that they give to the foreign tourists.
