AMY KENTON, ED.D.
Assistant Principal
Ms. Tufo has successfully completed 400 hours of her internship with the Westbury School
District. During her service as an administrative intern for the Park Avenue School, she has
assisted with and provided leadership for a number of significant initiatives.

Her expertise as an experienced Reading Teacher has particularly informed her contributions
to literacy instruction. She has provided insight and leadership in terms of curriculum
development and instructional improvement in a variety of ways. She has analyzed
assessment data and presented it to administration and staff as means to identify curricular
gaps and bolster instruction to address deficits. She has spearheaded the work of the School
Inquiry Team to redesign the instructional block for English Language Arts Instruction to
incorporate more effective pedagogical methods. She has also worked with the District
Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Funded Programs, to revise the pacing guides for
English Language Arts Instruction. In turn, she has analyzed and provided a guide for staff
that maps the spiraling of standards throughout the K-5 ELA reading series program
(Journeys). She has also facilitated the implementation of new technologies including the
applications for the reading programs iRead and IRLA, as well as developed a professional
development session using Brainpop to supplement instruction on character traits.

Ms. Tufo has also been an instrumental participant in terms of school operations. She has
assisted in scheduling a number of school events ranging from performances to test
administrations to professional development sessions. She has also contributed to the
organization of our successful Health and Wellness Fair and Week, by contacting and
scheduling the participation of community partners, generating the promotional materials
that were sent to families and the community, and helping to shape the evenings agenda.
She has also helped supervise a number of key school events including the Science Fair, the
Hispanic Heritage Celebration, Holiday Concerts, and Graduation.

Ms. Tufo has observed and participated in multiple forums, through which she has gotten a
birds eye perspective on the myriad decisions made by building and district leaders. She has
served on interview committees, as a facilitator on the Positive Behavioral Interventions and
Supports (PBIS) Committee, as a member of District Council, and on grade level professional
learning communities (PLCs).

Ms. Tufo is an excellent educational leader, who not only brings her own rich instructional
experience to the consideration of administrative tasks, but also thoroughly researches
current effective practices to bolster instruction and problem-solve. She can always be
counted on to come through on tasks she takes on, and to carry them out with the highest
level of professionalism and integrity. I am confident she will prove to be a dynamic and
innovative school or district administrator.
