Abstract
The article studies the diverse approach to Islamic society of three Spanish women
writers who visited this area of the world during different periods of our recent history.
Through the literary analysis of their works, the article establishes the extent and
limitations of Edward Said’s concept of Orientalism in 20th century Spanish literature
and the ambiguities and contradictions of Spain’s relationship with the Islamic world.
