I. Objectives

Cognitive : Compare values of the different denominations of coins and paper


bills through P100 using the relation symbol.
Psychomotor : Write the relation symbol accurately.
Affective : Show respect and care using coins and paper bills.

II. Learning Content

Skill : Comparing values of the different denominations of coins and paper


bills through P100 using the relation symbols.
Reference : BEC PELC-1.A 7.3 K-12
BED PELC-1.A 7.3
Materials : Philippine money – coins and paper bills in different denominations,
pocket chart or show cards.
Values : Respect for Philippine money (country’s legal tender)

III. Learning Experiences

A. Preparatory Activities

1. Drill

Use of >,< or = in comparing numbers.


Directions: Write >,< or = to make each sentence correct.

2. Review

Write the amount with the peso sign.

a. Two pesos and 50 centavos _________________


b. Ten pesos ______________
c. 100 pesos ______________

3. Motivation

Ask how much baon each of your pupils have?


Then let the class identify who has the biggest amount of baon.
You may ask the pupils on what is the equivalent of it in different denominations.

Example:

P9.70 __________ P15.15


25¢___________ P0.25
B. Developmental Activities

1. Presentation

a. Ask the pupils: If you have two 5 peso coins and I have 10 peso coin, would you
like to exchange them with my money? Why?

b. Show four 10 peso coins and one 50 peso bill.


Ask: Which has a greater amount? How could you compare the amounts? (Forty
pesos is less than fifty pesos.)

2. Group Activities

Activity 1

Using the pocket chart or show cards, show different denominations to the class and
have them write the correct symbol.

Activity 2

Game: Bring Me
Example: 20 peso bill and 10 peso coin
Divide the class into four groups. Give each group play money and different coins. Ask
the pupils to bring bills and coins with the same value as the amount called for. The
first group who can give the correct set of bills and coins gets a point.
The group that gets the most points wins.
- Bring me an amount greater than P5 but less than P8.
- Bring me an amount equal to P30.
- Bring me an amount less than P68 but greater than P65.

Valuing: Talk about how to take care of the coins and paper bills.

- Ask: Have you seen coins, which are flattened and paper bills which are torn?
Which have drawings and writings? Should we do these things to our money?
Why?
(We must use our money carefully. We must take care of them so that they will
last long. We must respect our money because we use them for buying food and
things.)

3. Generalization

How do we compare values of corresponding coins and bills?


We compare values of corresponding coins and bills by using relation symbols =, <,
and > (equal, less than, greater than)

C. Application

Answer the following:

1. Mother gave Len forty pesos. She gave Jon fifty pesos. Who receive more? Why?
Compare Len’s money to Jon’s money using the relation symbol.

2. Which is more, one P10 coin, two P5 coin and three 25-centavo coins or one P20-
bill? Write the amounts in symbol then compare.
