ID-N-SB-CL-4302-0005 COPI 6 MONTH
15 November 2013
Work Centre : IDWI 6 MONTHLY – CONTROL VALVE POSITIONER
Duration : 1.5 HR CALIBRATION AND FUNCTION TEST

1.0 No special tools needed

2.0 Routine

Task 1 Perform Positioner Calibration

√ : OK
NO DESCRIPTION
X : NO
Perform usually inspection of valve body for any abnormalities (erosion/corrosion) on the
1
outside of the valve. Check the mounting bolts for any corrosion. Retighten if necessary.

2 Visual Inspect Leaks from actuator body or stem

Inspect Air Instrument connection / tubing, Tube fittings, Quick Exhaust and Cylinder’s
3 seals for leak. Use SNOOPY (Soap solvent) to confirm any leaking on them and repair or
replace as necessary.
Inspect the limit switches for micro switches and cable terminals condition.
4
Clean up/replace and retighten if necessary.
Inspect the Solenoid Valve and its wiring connection in junction box for loosing and
5
corrosion. Clean up and retighten as necessary, and record the Ohm Resistance (mm Ω).
Inspect instrument air supply Pressure Regulator for proper functionality to supplying
pressure as per Valve operating pressure.
6
Adjust pressure setting as necessary refer to Valve operating pressure and repair or
replace if it is worn out, inspect local Press Gauge. Replace if necessary.
Do stroke & loop tests. Observe and record for any jerk during travelling. Ensure that any
process/line related is dated or free from hazard during function test. Calibrate if need.
7
Activation from engineering work station can perform for individual control valve
performance test.
Check the full opening and closing position are within travel scales with the set
8 pressure of 0% and 100%

For Control Valve with positioner, check the positioner level is parallel with slide
9 rail at 50% open of valve. Adjust as per Manufacturer’s Instruction if necessary.
Check positioner operating pressure and ensure correct supply
10 Supply input signal of 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of range. Record
corresponding % opening / closing.
The tolerance for valve w/ positioner shall be; linearity ± 1.030, hysteresis ±1.0%.
11

Ensure all control valves have been inspected and function tested and report to your
12
Supervisor if found any abnormal condition or function to be followed up.

Task 1 Perform internal leak detection, ultrasonic test.

√ : OK
NO DESCRIPTION X : NO

Remove any surface rust or corrosion that may inhibit valve operation and coat any exposed
1
parts with anti-rust compound
Using the Gas Leakage Detection device (ultrasonic test), check all external leak paths from
2
the valve, including flange joints, stem or gland seals and ancillary piping and connections.

Task 2 Perform function test

√ : OK
NO DESCRIPTION X : NO

Function valve configuration locally (if process conditions permit). This should be repeated 3
1
times. Confirm correct and smooth valve operation
2 Ensure local indicator is showing correct position as per regulating requirements
