WARNING, don't try to build this very rst prototype, I

initially thought that this version would be stable enough
to be shared.
BUT my third video shows that this V1 prototype is not
stable enough, because the full-bridge inverter destroyed
itself.
Use this video only as reference!

-- Transformer coupled series resonant induction heater --

Induction heaters need a lot of power, this power can be

only delivered e ciently with high voltage, any industrial
IH uses single or three phase mains.
Low voltage is only good for prototyping. Using a lab
power supply provides bene ts like voltage and current
limiting, so you don't blow up your parts by mistake.

Series resonant tank properties :

Resonant frequency (empty coil) = 45kHz
Capacitance = 5µF

Stray inductance = 0,6µH

MX
Coil inductance = 1,9µH
Overall inductance = 2,5µH
Max Capacitor voltage = 650Vrms
Max estimated current = 1000Irms

The voltage fed full bridge inverter is a very important part

of the system, it converts the DC into high frequency. For
that it needs a proper gate drive, cooling, decoupling caps
and more probably.

Also important for e cient switching is dead time to

prevent cross conduction.

The gate driver is not that good currently, no doubt since

it's my rst one that I got working.

NE555P Timer
10k Trimmer Potentiometer
5k Multi Turn Potentiometer 3600°
270ohm Resistor
5600ohm Resistor
3,3 nF Capacitor
1 nF Capacitor

2. -Signal Ampli er-

1x 1200ohm Resistor
2x BD681
2x BD190
2x 470uF Capacitor
1x IRF4905
1x IRFZ46N *

3. -Gate Drive Transformer-

1x small ferrite toroid core
4 Different colored wires (easier to distinguish)

Max temperature of the workpiece estimated from the

color = 1400-1500°C

the P-MOS IRF4905 is upside down. The source
must go to the 12-15V i am sure you're getting high

focusing on the nut gradually heating up you could
have shown us the waveforms and the current levels

Your Bridge Recti er (at 1:00) is drawn wrong... very
wrong. This con guration would blow up the far-left
diode immediately. Each leg of the AC should have a
diode to each leg of the DC output.
