Wood Cement Board

Its produced by mixing Wooden chips, Portland

cement and mineralizing agents thoroughly. It
combines the best properties of wood and cement.
It is tough and durable like cement and it is flexible
and easy to work with like wood.
Wood cement board is made from planted wood
and does not contain any hazardous composition
such as asbestos or urea formaldehyde. It is eco-
friendly.

The Special Properties of Wood cement

Board
• Durability
one of the most durable building boards. It
combines the strength of cement with the flexibility
of wood like no other material.

• No Delamination
• Safe from Termite Attack and Fungus
Termite does not attack wood cement board
because the wood particles are immersed in
cement. Fungi cultures do not develop on it
because of its alkaline nature (pH Value = 12).

• Heat Insulation
It has an excellent heat insulating property due to
its wood content. Its K value is 0.1 W/m c, one of
the lowest among the external use building boards.
It helps saving energy bill for both heated and air-
conditioned area.

• Easy Workability
Working with wood cement board is easy. Most
conventional wood-working tools and procedures
can be applied. Dry process installation is quick
and clean.
• No Hazardous Content
It is asbestos free. It contains no health hazardous
contents such as urea formaldehyde found in other
board materials.

• Weather Resistance
it is weather resistant because the wood particles
are mineralized. Thus, it does not degenerate from
the effects of moisture, rain, sun, or heat.

• Low Water Absorbtion

• Fire Resistance
it passed BS 476 Part 6 and 7. It is classified as
Class "O' material. It can be used with heat
insulating material to improve its fire prevention
capability. Wood cement board partition system
passed the 1 hour and 2 hours fire rating test
according to BS 476 Part 22.
• Sound Insulation
With density of 1300 kg/m, VIVA BOARD is an
excellent sound proofing material.

• Economical
it is not only good value for money, its light weight
and easy workability reduces foundation and labor
costs.

• Eco-Friendly
it is an excellent substitute for natural wood. It
provides exceptional durability, prolonging life of
construction. Using it also encourages
reforestation program.

Framing
Guide
Wood cement board is a combination of
wood and cement. It inherits many
properties of wood in that it has some
moisture movement, meaning that it is
flexible, but to a lesser degree compared
to that of wood. This dimensional change
is subjected to moisture and heat. Correct
frame selection and installation not only
prevents unsatisfactory result such as
edge cracks
There are three recommended frame
types for ceiling and wall installation

- Timber Frame
Expands and contracts in the same
direction as wood cement board and allow
some movement
Suitable for most application

- Galvanized Steel Frame of 0.50 – 1.00

mm
Allow some movement
Suitable for most application depending on
thickness

- ‘C’ Light Gauge Steel Frame of 1.60 mm

thickness and above
Allow minimal movement
Where wood cement board are exposed to
weather or changes in moisture, it should
be ensured that maximum possible
movement is allowed by using movable
frame construction. This is especially
important when steel stud of over 1.00 mm
are used. The instruction is as follows:

- Use two pieces of steel studs at the joint

between boards
- Fix frame together using screw, or avoid
welding the “wing” of the frame, to allow
some movement
- Install boards on individual frame
- Fix boards along either short or long
edges depending on application

Joint
Choice and method of joint detail will depend on
Application, location, board thickness and surface
finishing required

Polyurethane Sealant

After properly cleaning gaps between boards,

apply masking tape along edges of both
boards.
Insert Viva Backing Rod into gap to prevent
three-way joint and safe the sealant
Fill the gap with Viva Flex sealant. The filling
dept should equal the width of the gap.
Clear any excess sealant on filled surface
before removing masking tape. The filled gaps
should never be exposed to water or humidity
for at least 2 hours. Allow 24 hours for
complete drying before paint.
Backing Rod
backing rod are functioned to minimize the
amount of polyurethane sealant required and used
under joint sealants in order to give the sealant the
correct dimensions to allow the maximum
movement.

Thickness and application

Fixing and mounting
Wood cement board can be mounted by using
screws nails staples or adhesive
Edges distances can be reduced If pre-drilled
holes are used or when using self drilling screws or
compressing air nailing
Nailing

Stapling
Screwing

Bonding

Surface Finishing
Wood cement board can be subjected to various
types of surfaces treatment on finishing. However,
owing to its alkaline content, it is recommended
that the board be primed with an anti alkali
premier, before a finishing coat of paint is applied
Painting

Wood cement board can be coated with a wide

rang of paint these include:
- Emulsion paint
- Gloss paint
- Polyurethane
- Polyester
- Epoxy
Filling
Screw and nail holes, damaged or uneven joints
cam easily remedied with proprietary filler
Lamination
-Wall paper
-Tilling
A coat of primer must
always be applied on the
reverse side
