Of Letters Patent No. 146,482 whereby movements of the instrument part 1 would

‘This improvement consists in the pull-in image plane relatively to the image plane
and out part of the instrument being of the stationary eye-pioce 4. In order

for the purpose of maintaining the coin- tion, adjustably in the instrument part
cidence of the object-glass image plane 1, so that by suitable movement in the 70

instrument part 1 results therefore in a
rotation of the gear wheel 14, and there-
fore in a movement of the endless driving
part 11 over the guide rollers 12, 13, the
object-glass clement 10 participating in
the said movement. ‘The ratio of trans-
mission is so calculated that the object-
glass element 10 is always in such a
position, independently of the licight at
the time of the pull-out and in instrament
part 1, that the dbject-glass image plane
goincides with the eye-piece image plane.
In order to maintain during the movement,
the same magnifying in spite of the
shifting of the single object-glass clement
10, the condition must be fulfilled. that
the object glass part 10 should be struck
by parallel pencils of rays.
Having now particularly described and
ascertained the nature of our said inven-
tion and in- what manner the same is
to be performed, we declare that what wo
claim is:—
1. An improvement or modification of
the extensible periscope, more particu-
larly for submarines, with the eye-piece
fixed relatively to the pull-in movement,
and with reflectors for reflecting the rays
into the eye-piece, participating in the
pull-in movement, as described in the
Specification of Letters Patent No 146,432

the light into the eye-piece, being secured
tothe extensible ‘part of the periscope
and by the adjustable instrament part
being provided with a lens clement
adjustable relatively to it, for the purpose
of maintaining the coincidence of the
object-glass image plane with the oye
piece image plane.
2. A periscope as set forth in Claim 1,
characterised by the lens element adjust
able in the pulf-in instrument part, being
controlled by an endless driving element,
the driving wheel of which is coupled to
a stationary tooth rack or the like, that
is to say, to one that does not participate
in the pull-in movement, for the purpose
of automatic adjustment of the adjustable
jens element.
3. A periscope as set forth in Claim 1,
characterised by the adjustable instrument
part being mounted in a guide casing,
in the interior of which is mounted the
motor for pulling in and out the adjust-
able instrument part.
4. ‘The periscope substantially as
described or substantially as illustrated in
the accompanying drawings.
