Introduction

The Baram Delta province is

in the eastern side of Malaysia in
Sarawak. It is classified as a tertiary
basin.

According to Rijks (1981) it is

developed after orogenic uplift and
folding of Cretaceous to Eocene
eugeosynclinal sediments. H.D.
Johnson et al (1989) stated the
province is bounded to the SW by a
relatively stable carbonate platform
which is the Central Luconia
Province. Based on Rijks (1981) a
total of 11 oil field and 2 gas field have
been discovered so far.

The main prospect is said to be

deposited in lower coastal plain Figure 1: Map location of BARAM Delta Operation province.

environment. The sedimentation was

accompanied by synsedimentary growth fault which provides a trap for hydrocarbon to store.

Pore pressure is pressure of groundwater within a soil or rock and Geo-pressure is the
pressure within the Earth, or formation pressure. Anomalous subsurface pore pressure indicates
higher or lower than the normal, predicted hydrostatic pressure for a given depth, or the pressure
exerted per unit area by a column of fresh water from sea level to a given depth. Conventional
porosity based on pore pressure is analyse using sonic/seismic velocity and resistivity data.

Reversal of normal trend of increasing impedance with depth is causes by overpressure.

Generally, pore pressure prediction process is in three stages; well evaluation, application to
predict pore pressure and analysis of seismic interval velocities
Problem statement

 What are the overpressure mechanism in BAR well in Baram Delta?

 What are the pore pressure behavior in BAR Well?
 What is the fluid flow direction in BAR well?

Objectives

 To construct depth-pressure profile of BAR well.

 To produce Pore Pressure versus Density crossplot for determination of fluid flow
mechanism.
 To identify the fluid flow direction.
