PURCHASER REFERENCES
This specification contains references to the following Purchaser documents:
Data Sheet ELC-DS-12.03
1. Where explosion-proof construction is specified, the motor shall meet the Underwriters Labo-
ratories (UL) listing requirements of UL 674, "Electric Motors and Generators for Use in Haz-
ardous Locations, Class I, Groups C and D, Class II, Groups E, F, and G".
2. Motors for use in Class I or II, Division 1 hazardous (classified) locations as defined by the
National Electrical Code (NEC) shall bear the UL listing mark.
3. The Manufacturer shall specifically identify any sections of this specification where the UL
listed motor cannot comply.
4. If a motor must be installed in a Division 1 classified location, one option is to use an "explo-
sionproof" motor with the UL listing mark.
a. The design for a "listed" motor must undergo an extensive series of tests as defined in UL
674.
b. These tests are not repeated for each individual motor built, so the Manufacturer cannot
deviate from the original design if he wants to maintain the listing mark.
c. We must accept the "listed" motor with no changes, but we want to know what compro-
mises have been made to the "severe duty" requirements of this specification as the bids
are evaluated.
5.0 ELECTRICAL PERFORMANCE
When operation with an adjustable-speed drive (ASD) is specified, the motor shall operate satis-
factorily under the specified "Site Data" conditions with the specified ASD and shaft load.
5.4 Insulation System and Temperature Rise [Add]
shaft seals shall be provided to prevent entrance of dirt and moisture along the shaft into
the bearing and grease reservoir (IP 55 Protection, per NEMA MG 1 Part 5).
6.1(c) [Add]
All vertical motors with solid couplings between the motor and load, or applications for
which the only thrust bearing is in the motor, shall have mounting face runout, mounting
rabbit eccentricity, shaft runout, and shaft axial end play within the limits of MG 1-18.251.
These motors are Type LP or LPH for Chemical Process In-Line Pump Applications, and
the suffix letters LP or LPH replace T or TS in the frame designation.
For vertical motors with flexible couplings between the motor and load and for which the
load has its own thrust bearing, a Type HP or HPH motor may be supplied with the runout
and eccentricity limits of MG 1-18.252. The suffix letters HP or HPH replace T or TS in
the frame designation.
For vertical hollow-shaft motors, Type P or PH base dimensions shall be according to MG
1-18.238 except the base's face runout and rabbit eccentricity shall not exceed 0.004 inch
indicator reading for all mounting-rabbit diameters. The suffix letters TP or TPH replace
T or TS in the frame designation.
• 6.1(d) [Add]
For vertical motors which are designed for external thrust loads, the thrust bearings shall
be rated for an AFBMA L-10 minimum life of 5000 hours continuous service at 200% of
the maximum specified up and down thrust. A pump may develop this maximum thrust
during starting or stopping or while performing at any capacity on the rated performance
curve.
• 6.1(h) [Add]
Other types of bearing lubrication methods such as oil mist, or nonregreasable factory
lubricated sealed bearings shall be provided when specified on the "Other Data" section of
the Data Sheet.
6.6 Drains [Add]
Explosionproof motors, when specified, shall be provided with an explosionproof drain fitting
with a UL listing mark.
• 9.0 TESTS
The tests described in this section, as amended by this specification, shall be performed on all
motors.
The report of the test and performance characteristics of the motor shall be presented on the form
from Section 10.2, Form B, of IEEE Standard 112-1996.
9.2 (b) [Add]
Voltage, current, and power input shall be measured at rated frequency with the rotor at
standstill. This may be taken single-phase or three-phase at rated or reduced voltage.
The quoted motor efficiency for all motor ratings shall be determined according to MG 1-12.59.1
and IEEE Standard 112-1996, Method B (Section 6.4), and shall be the NEMA "Nominal Effi-
ciency" as listed in MG 1-12.59.2, Table 12-9. The efficiency, if tested by Method B at the motor
nameplate rating, shall not be less than the Minimum Efficiency associated with the Nominal
Efficiency value of Table 12-9.
• 9.3.1 Heat Run and Efficiency Test [Add]
When specified on the Data Sheet, the winding temperature rise, bearing temperature rise
[(see 6.1 (f), IEEE Standard 841)], and motor efficiency shall be determined by subjecting
the motor to a dynamometer test and IEEE Standard 112-1996, Method B (Section 6.4).
The test shall be conducted at 1.0 service factor. This test is only required for one of a
group of identically rated motors purchased at the same time, unless specified for every
motor on the Data Sheet.
• 9.3.2 Noise Test [Add]]
When specified on the Data Sheet, the motor shall be subjected to a noise test to demon-
strate compliance with Section 6.8 of this specification. This test is only required for one
of a group of identically rated motors purchased at the same time.
• 11.0 SPACE HEATERS - REQUIREMENTS [Add]
When specified on the Data Sheet, space heaters shall be provided which comply with this section.
The space heater leads shall be brought out to a terminal box separate from the power lead terminal
box.
An engraved caution nameplate shall be provided on the front of the motor terminal box stating
"CAUTION: SPACE HEATERS MAY BE ENERGIZED". The nameplate shall be black engrav-
ing on a yellow background.
The surface temperature of the heater element shall not exceed the temperature indicated on the
Data Sheet.
12.0 DATA EXCHANGE - USER/MANUFACTURER

14.0 PROPOSALS [Add]
14.1 Instructions to Manufacturer [Add]
The Manufacturer's proposal shall be in strict accordance with the requirements of the Quotation
Request, the Data Sheets, and this specification. If the Manufacturer wishes to take exceptions or
to propose alternatives to the requirements of the above documents, the proposed deviations shall
be described and a price adjustment applicable to each individual deviation shall be given should
the Purchaser elect to accept individual deviations. Except where acceptance of deviations is in
writing, the requirements of the documents listed below shall apply.
In case of conflicts among pertinent documents, they shall take precedence in the following order:
a. Quotation Request or Purchase Order List Sheets
Within 6 weeks of the placement of a purchase order, the Manufacturer shall submit certified cop-
ies of the motor instruction manual, outline drawings, speed-versus-torque curve, speed-versus
current curve, and the value of the rotor inertia. The curves shall include plots at 80% and 100%
of rated motor voltage. When specified, the curves and rotor inertia value shall be supplied with
the proposal. Supplier shall furnish final as-built drawings in editable electronic format (i.e.
