AUDIT TRAIL

2. How do poets portray romance in the different eras from the view of literature
teachers?

“I guess they used different techniques because noon

2.1 What are the literature is used not only for entertainment, not only for
common problems pleasure but specifically ginagamit nila ang literature as
that you observed in means of indoctrination, as means of teaching, as means of
teaching dance? parang part sa life, part siya ng education talaga. So ayon
epiphany, from from thir mistakes, from what they have
learned yon yong ginagamit nila na technique sa
pagsulat.” (IDI_D2)

“Now base on my reading I think the poet has used so

many literary techniques, but what stood out is the imagery
so that it will trigger the imagination of the reader.”
(IDI_H1)

“What I have observed the commonly literary techniques

used by poet in portraying romance we have here for the
Early English period what you have here is epiphany or
that is realization.” (IDI_C3)

“They’re addressing directly talking to a person na meron

syan persuasion..ahmm Song to Celia drink to me only with
thine eyes one.. that’s directly talking to a person an may
persuasion, there’s convincing power and also ditto sa
third come lve with me and be my love so ganon din sya
there’s invitation yon yong term.” (IDI_D2)

“To portray romance in the different poems you gave me,

they used figures of speech like allegory, alliteration, irony,
hyperbole, personification, allusion and there is also used
of metaphor and of course imagery and then
foreshadowing, euphemism, epigraph and also rhyme
scheme, repetition, symbolism is also present.” (IDI_L4)

“They were using Old Englishes because they are using

thy, these something like that.” (FGD_G3)
98

“They are using those literary techniques because they are

more on vocal.” (FGD_V3)

“I guess yong difference or yong distinct feature which

2.2 How do these now, nya which differentiate itt from the others is yong loe
poems differ from one expression niya.” (IDI_D2)
another in terms of
love expression?
“So uhhmmm I think it would also tell about their culture
during that time.” (IDI_H1)

“Now on the ohh Jacobean period ahh I think this is

where they try to ahh..think of a philosophy of the love,
they try to reason out.” (IDI_H1)

“So maybe the older the time, the more nasigurobrave , the
more tragic angmahitabo then until it changes it changes
noh.. now we are like humans, like we act normally.”
(FGD_A4).

“Yong technique naginagamitniladito is it’s more of

ahhhmmm… showing love, expressing love directly to the
person to whom they are in love with in a rhetorical or
persuasive manner.” (IDI_L4)

“… it’s more of … ahmmm … reflection … reflection as to

the … as to the kind of love that they have and what they
can offer to the person that they love … The next for the
Victorian period … ahmmm … they are more of …
ahmmmm … they are more of … their … the words that
they use are more of … of … professing the kind of love
that they have and it also … they start form themselves
before they proceed to professing the love to the person.”
(IDI_L6)

“For the Early English period I think There were Love and
2.3 What poetic device All Thy Laws forever uses imagery. For Elizabethan
did the poets utilize in period, The passionate shepherd to his love uses rhyme so
portraying romance in it sounds good. Now, Jacobean, it also uses metaphor in
each era? this poem to my Dear and Loving Husband, Now for the
Victorian Period, How Do I Love Thee still it uses
metaphor because he wanted to ahh.. the author want to..
Elizabeth Browning..wanted to compare that love to a
certain degree. And then, for the modern contemporary
99

still it uses imagery. “ (IDI_H1)

“Basically, just the same … just the same … metaphor,

simile, epigram … ahh … alliteration … no … basically all
of them. “(IDI_L6)

“Still … very figurative … so I … I guess that’s one of the

big element maskinunsa man nga poem no nganaajudsiya
… ma-romance man … o maskinunsa man sa for this one
… murag … todoangpaggamitsamga figurative language”.
(IDI_G7)

“And In the Elizabethan period it is more of rhetorical just

like for example the Passionate Shepherd to his love it is
rhetorical. It doesn’t need an answer or response however
there was this response that have been written.”
(FGD_G3)

“And in the Jacobean it is somehow ingenious lets say for

example TO my dear and loving husband most particularly
the words are somehow used professionally something like
that. It really requires. It really require somewhat like a
higher order thinking skills because the words are more
straightforward.” (FGD_G3)

“So he uses those devices because they wanted to..to

2.4 How did the poets portray what is really happening during that era. Now you
utilize those poetic cannot think of the future, you cannot think of the past you
devices in each era? simply think of the present on how you experience that”.
(IDI_H1)

“Some so the poets are always conscious kung ano man ag

ginagamit nila na mga poetic devices hindi sila, hindi
naman sila agagmit non if it won’t help them para ma
express kung ano talaga yong gusto nilang eexpress.”
(IDI_D2)

“I guess they use the literary devices or the poetic devices

in the writing of the lines the content of the
poems.”(IDI_L4)

“I think they utilized it as a means of expression. No matter

what their gender was uh yah.. as long as they could
100

express themselves and what they experience about love.”

(FGD_D4)

“I can say that … these qualities come with … the way …

2.5 How do these that these poets have … their experiences during their time
emerging qualities of writing … as you can see … ahhhhh … in … in most …
contribute to the in most writings … writers tend to write …. their… going
evolution of romance … they equate their writings on the experiences that they
in each era? have.” (IDI_C3)

“It actually helps in the evolution because ahh.. this

devices, I mean the emerging qualities of each of the device
would also reflect of on the change of culture because
there is a change also on the mindset of the people. There
is a change on the lifestyle.” (IDI_H1)

“They contributed effectively to the shaping.” (IDI_D2)

“From ambiguous or queer type of poetry down to the very

concrete speciallythat it is much more direct which is mas
dalisigurosabton on the generation that we have right
now.” (FGD_K4)

“Because I think people cannot appreciate on something

na very indirect it because doesn’t go straightforward to
their heart something like on their expression.”( FGD_P3)

3. What are the emerging interpretations of the literature teachers from the
different eras of the poems ?

3.1 What are the “The implications would also be reflected on the culture
implications you during that time. Ok so you cannot actually isolate, thats
get from the poems why in analyzing every poem, you have to know the culture
given ? during that time. Dont simply interpret a certain poetry
based on your experiences right now thats why it needs
more delving of the experience and the history during the
time where this poetry was actually written.” (IDI_H1)

“The implications that I have from the poems presented to

me … that … ahhhh … it would speak more on … of … the
… the love is being portrayed … how it is being presented
to the readers.” (IDI_C3)
101

“The poems given suggest that human in nature are really

loving and as they express their love they do it in different
ways. So we have different expressions of love and
uhmm.people can think of man ways just to express and to
fight for their love. “(IDI_L4)

“Because the poem tend to tell us that we need to be vocal

at the same time liberated.” (FGD_V3)

“I think the implications would really differ from era to

era. In the Early English period of course the expression
somewhat like the implication could be or the type of love
is somehow a man expressing nobility in terms of love or
somewhat like conservative type.” (FGD_G3)

3.2 What are the “The way they portray it and the way they expresses kasi
similarities or before its more on like you have to express and I will die in
differences in the order to express this one parang its something like that. Its
above mentioned exaggerated. On the other hand also as it moves parang its
poems in terms of becoming like sacrificial the kind of love that you give
general idea ? timely without asking something in return. And so as it
goes by parang it becomes a little, it has its meaning a little
bit decreasing in terms of words because people don’t
believe in words anymore, they believe in actions. SO they
are becoming not so involved into words but rather than in
the expression itself and the action itself. So that’s why in
our forms of poetry we are becoming more practical just
like what you have said the words.. the writer really choose
something that is related or just simple words in order for
the readers also to understand.” (FGD_P3)

“Ok, I guess my answer in 3.1 can suffice to that kasi yon

yong mag differences nila diba lahilahi sila so but
similarities is yon pare pareho ang early English ug ang
Victorian perod, they have that similarity parang they
raised the banner of love to a higher level. They’re trying
to redeem ahmm… yong ano naman yong ahh… ang
contrast masyado is yong Elizabethan period and Jacobean
period. Elizabethan period celebration of love and the hope
that comes with love while sa Jacobean if we really look at
it from the surface they are para bang tackle love through
the mistakes of life pero if you dig deeper to it actually
hope man gihapon ang iyang ginalift kay wala man ka nila
gina discourage para mag love instead don’t look at love
nga blissful kayo nga puro happ2x. sa eliabetahn, sa ilaha
102

kaya hmm…. Let love be a torch in darkness, parang hope

sya in life’s sufferings.” (IDI_D1)

“One thing that I … I noted … no … as I go through all

these materials is that … ahmmm … in general … I am
really amazed in the evolution of the words in English …
because … I am not really … that … ahmmmm … long
term teacher in English … I only taught this subject for
over ten (10) years … and … and in more than ten (10)
years that I taught … this is the only time I was … I was
really reading … no … word per word … the … poems
coming from … very old English … ahmmmmm … very old
English era so I think … I think the similarities and
differences … no … can be attributed more on the kind of
words that they use and the kind of … of expression that
they used.” (IDI_L6)

3.3 What are the “The change is ang ilang way in expressing love/ the
changes that authors are syempre influenced by the happenings in a
happened as poems society so part.. history can explain nganong ingon ani
about romance evolve sila. So sometimes the authors write in accordance with the
over time ? conventions of the society, sometimes naman they write
ahmm going against the current so wala ta kabalo I mean
I’m not that wala, dili kayo ko sure no kung unsay nahitabo
politically or socially ani nga time but pwede nga ani nga
time happy ang ilang pag express sa love pero in reality
gubot diay kayo diba/ uso sauna ang fixed marriages ,
yong ganon so wala ta kabalo actually those are factors no
nga maka cause sa changes that happen. So as to the
changes ganina na discuss nato ang changes in the themes,
so as to how these changes came to be could be affected by
the socio-economic status, the political and governmental
events duting that time.” (IDI_D3)

“Siguro sa paggamit ng mga words. Before single words,

kung unsa iyang meaning mao najud to pero karon single
word it has many or multiple meaning. Usahay I associate
pud nato sa atong experience.” (FGD_V3)

“Alright … from classic … nga … nga … courting to the

fleshly … erotic indulgence … anasiya … kay though
dililangjud …
gipakitadidtosapinakasugodjudsakadtongpinka Early
English … ngakanangnaasilaymga fleshly desire … pero …
ginaanolangdidto is … very conservative man gud … so
classic nga courting … Let’s say traditional poetry up to sa
… sa … realidadnga … mag-igat-igatjud … ana … okay. “
(IDI_G7)
103

3.4 What specific

qualities of romance “Okay … so ang very observable lang naman talaga is
changed as poems in yung last … for me ha? kasi yung first one … ahmmmm …
different eras this is about love specific qualities of romance … okay …
developed ? so Early English period … I can say na not only based on
those poems given but as far as I know sa kanila kasing
norm is para bang mamatay para sa love even for their
country … loyalty … love is connected with loyalty …
samantalang dito … specific qualities of romance is it
makes you a better person … yun … yun siya … dito
naman is .. it makes you a hopeful … sa Jacobean naman
… noble pero hindi na siya through fighting, hindi na
through war, hindi na through dying for someone instead
makes sure na your love will not make other people hurt
later … So yung parang … we can naver attain perfection
pero as much as possible, evaluate your feelings first
…bali validate mo muna ng makilang ulit so still upholding
yung qualities of romance dito … very serious … very
serious … and then actually yung kay Elizabeth Barrett
Browning yung love niya is theres spiritual accent to it …
So sa fifth, yung qualities of romance talag … its more on
physical expressions sa kanila, yung quality diri is … at the
physical love and physical expression.” (IDI_D3)

“Specific qualities … ahmmmm … would mean … ahmmm

… specific qualities would mean that the authors are more
delving into … ahmmm … let me … let me rephrase that …
the authors in the olden times … are more into their …
their courageous expression of their love … and then as it
evolves … as it develops turds the Contemporary period …
I think … it becomes more … more carnal … no …
becomes more sensual or more arouse in terms of … in
terms of … ahmmmm … the sensibility of the flesh … did I
say that? hehehehe… okay … that’s it from … from merely
… expressing their love turds becoming more sensible …
towards becoming more … ahmmm … what we call that …
becoming more … into … becoming more … I miss the
word … I forgot the word …basta … it’s more of … the
sensual … or sensibility of the flesh” (IDI_L7)

3.5 What do you “Alright … there is a significant change happened

deduce from the especially on the way they express love … no …
evolution of romance murajudsiyaugkanang … you will say nga from the start …
in each era through you will look at love … simple … or smile-smile lang … or
the glimpse on the chill chilllang … pwero there is more … beyond … what is
poems given ? the very classic … mao nana ron … naajuy … naajuy …
significant change.” (IDI_G7)
104

“Yes. Aside from awareness also for them to appreciate

also the kind of love that they had before. As what we have
said earlier noh its evolving in a way na its becoming
meaningless parang the thought is like that in general. So it
will help them appreciate somehow apply also it in their
own lives na to become devoted, sincere in what they are
saying and not just with words but at the same time with
actions.” (FGD_P3)

“Their … manner of expressing love really evolve … ahhh

… as what I have said … ahhh … for several times already
… from the Earlier times … the poets mainly express love
through sacrifices … ahhh … valuing one another much …
and the respect is very evident in their works … towards
one another … unlike this time … its more … its more
lustful and more erotic which is a taboo for the previous
generation or a taboo for the previous era … since … they
imply … their expression of love through gestures alone
and through sincere words.” (IDI_L4)
