O

Without music, life would be unlived. Divine sage Narda introduced the art of music to the earth from heaven.
The first sound ever heard in the universe is the Naadbhrama or Om mantra. Most God or Goddess are depicted
with musical instruments in Indian culture. Now, the fundamental question is, why do people listen to music?
When we listen to music and follow the rhythms and the words, we feel like that we are in the fairy-tale and we
immerse in the rhythm. In this sense, music brings us to our dream, and helps us imagine the beautiful life. On
the other hand, we can express our emotions and feelings via music. Music activates the parts of the brain and
neurochemical serotonin that makes people happy. Listening to the music of the winds as they pass through the
trees, what can we understand? Or listening to the sound of running water, what can we understand? Or looking
at a beautiful sunset and all the colors spread over the horizon, what can we understand? What do we
understand? But something happens which is far more precious than understanding. We fall in love, we feel it,
we become it. The acronym of the word MUSIC is self explanatory.

Medium of Divine connection: Sound occupies an important place in the life of most sufis and sages. It is a tool
to get closer to God, dissolving the physical realm into the spiritual one by polishing the heart and enhancing the
spiritual aspect of the human being over the physical being. A deep spiritual connection is established and the
sufi releases all the worldly attachments, to be able to dissolve into God's light and power.

Universal Language: Music is the inner or universal language. I do not know French or German or Italian. But if
music is played, immediately the heart of the music enters into my heart, or my heart enters into the music. At
that time, we do not need outer communication; the inner communion of the heart is enough. My heart is
communing with the heart of the music and in our communion we become inseparably one.

Soulfulness: Studies have shown that people remember 10% of what they¶re told, 40% of what they read, and
90% of what they hear in music. By using the power of music and the innate responsiveness to it that God has
built into our beings we can meet people at their point of need with messages that have the power to heal.

Inner Peace: Music quickly and easily helps us to reduce stress, relax and nurture body, mind and soul. When
we listen to and 'be' with the music our breath becomes effortless, deeper and slower. Stress melts away like
magic, as we shift gears into 'the inner peace zone'.

Calming mind: The frontal lobe of the brain is stimulated and activated by listening to music, as it is the part of
the brain that is associated with higher mental functions such as thinking abstract thoughts, or planning for the
future. In psychological studies it has been found that listening to Mozart improve d people's mathematical and
spatial reasoning.

Music is definitely next to meditation Music relaxes the body, quiets the mind, opens the heart, and soothes the
soul. Without music, life is a journey through a desert. It washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. I
think there are only three things India will be known for 2,000 years from now when they study this civilization:
the democracy, music, and spirituality.
