® 5. OPERATIONALIZATION
FIRST TIME START-UP
r~ BEFORE THE MULTIMILL IS STARTED FOR THE FIRST TIME THE VARIOUS
FUNCTIONS OF THE HAMMERMILL ARE CHECKED.
Guide plate
If the hammermiill is supplied with a separator with built-in guide plate or with an
intermediate piece with guide plate, it is checked that the guide plate adjustment in the mill
inlet is correct in relation to the mill rotation direction, see fig. 6.

Itis necessary to give the motor a brief start-up.
Door lock+
The hammermill is supplied with door locks. The doors can only be opened when power is
connected and the rotor does not rotate. The hammermill cannot be started when the
doors are open.
*Hammenmills for EU/E@S-countries are always supplied with door locks. Hammermills
supplied to countries outside the EU/E@S can be supplied with door locks at request.16

@ tammers
Check the number of hammers and their position. Number and position must be in
accordance with the hammer charts, see chapter 11. HAMMER CHARTS.
Screens
Check that screens are placed correctly and that chains are tightened. Screens must fit
tightly to hammermill contact surfaces.

Foreign matters
Check the mill housing and separator for foreign matters and close and fasten hammermill
inspection doors and cleaning doors.

IMPORTANT!
CHECK THAT FEEDER SCREW AND DISCHARGE SCREW CONVEYOR STOP WHEN
THE RESPECTIVE OVERFLOW GATES ARE OPENED.
Further, the feeder screw must stop if one of the subsequent machines stop (discharge
screw conveyor, fan etc.
Aspiration
To achieve optimum operation the air amount through the installation must correspond to
the values determined by SPROUT-MATADOR AIS.
TYPE ‘AIR AMOUNT [mth]
315 2000
450 3000
630 4000
800 5000
e “1000 6000
During grinding (operation)
Under-pressure: Minimum 120-150mm w.g. at screen perforation > 2.5mm
Under-pressure: Minimum 250-300mm w.g. at screen perforation < 2.5mm
Max. under-pressure.
Absolute under-pressure: 700-800 mm w.g. at screen perforation <@2.0mm
and greasy products.
The values are only guiding and should in each case be evaluated based on the product.
When a new installation is started up the resistance in the system will be small, and
therefore the air amount will increase beyond the recommended level.
Therefore it is expedient that the fan is equipped with a set of nozzles in which extra
resistance can be inserted to reduce the air amount.
But as screens and filter bags close up, the air amount will drop. After-a'short period it is
e therefore important to meter the air amount and perhaps adjust the air amount.18
SPROUT-MATADOR
FEED TECHNOLOGY
To avoid fast clogging of screens the under-pressure in the system must be correct.
The under-pressure is measured in the following way on the outside of screens and in the
collecting funnel:
Ifthe filter is supplied with a differential pressure manometer, the hose leading to the
clean air side of the filter is removed from the instrument. This makes it possible to read
the absolute under-pressure on the outside of the screens.19

@ cearings
On freshly lubricated bearings the bearing temperature will rise briefly immediately after
start-up. In some cases this may release the breaker function of the bearing sensors
After approx. 30 minutes operation, however, the temperature should drop and thereafter
it should not exceed 40-70° C depending on the mill size.
