Convention Center: is a large building deigned to hold a convention in which a group of people gather to
promote and share common activities. Convention centers usually accommodate several attendees. This
hall usually accommodate a major event such as concerts, trade shows and exhibitions.

 Types of room in a convention center

o An auditorium- is a room built to enable an audience to hear and watch performances at
venues such as theatres. For movie theatres, the number of auditoriums is expressed as
the number of screens. Auditoria can be found in entertainment venues, community halls,
and theaters, and may be used for rehearsal, presentation, performing arts productions, or
as a learning space.
o A concert hall -is a cultural building with a stage which serves as a performance venue
and an auditorium filled with seats.
o Meeting rooms are evenly distributed throughout the building and located five minutes or
less from each other, simplifying logistics and attendee navigation.
o A conference hall or conference room is a room provided for singular events such as
business conferences and meetings

 List of Structural Elements in a Convention Center

o Design Loads- The floor must be designed to accommodate 350 pounds per square foot
loading.The Borneo Convention Center building has a gross floor area of 36,500
squaremetres and the internal design offers complete flexibility with functional spaces
able to be sub-divided into a variety of sizes and configurations for plenary sessions,
exhibitions and banquets. The capacities in BCCK include 1,500 delegates in plenary, a
2,000 capacity banquet hall and 14 breakout meetings rooms. The largest pillar free
exhibition space is 2,500 square meters. The roof canopy is supported by a series of
exposed structural elements resembling the trunks and branches of rainforest trees.
BCCK is designed on an east-west access to mitigate the effects of solar gain. It is also
oriented to face Mecca and incorporates a Muslim prayer room.
o Lighting system- A combinationof high efficiency, non-dimmable metal halide and
dimmable or stepped fluorescent lighting types which is recommended.The Borneo

have wireless internet access in public areas and provide simultaneous interpretation
facilities in four languages.
o Car parking-The Borneo Convention Center has 800 vehicles is provided in a
combination of underground and open parking.
