There are actually 2 sets of contacts in parallel as sho"'11 in the diagram above, but I have redrawn the three key
positions below in simplified form, but the operation of the circuit is the s ame. The switch lever pivots, so when the
lever is moved upwards to the Advance position, it is the bottom se-t of contacts that operate.

For the mad: 4 and before, the advance connected the clock circuit to the 6 second pulse instead of the I second. The
operation was the same except that it took 6 times longer to advance the clocks an hoW'!
