Internal diameter of armature stampings 20 cm
Number of slots 39

Width of the pole 12 cm
Inter pole size 4.5 × 15 cm
Air gap at main pole 0.5 cm
Air gap at inter pole 0.7 cm

Half sectional elevation

Armature:

1. Draw a semi circle with the radius of = 21 which represents the external
diameter of armature stamping
2. Draw a semi circle with the radius of = 10 which represents the internal
diameter of armature stamping

Armature slots (1.2 × 4 cm)

1. Draw a dotted semi circle with the radius of 21 − 4 = 17 which represents


periphery of armature with slot height 4 cm.
2. Draw a slot on mean vertical axis with 1.2 cm width and 4 cm height
3. Total number of slots 39, draw 2 or more slots with distance between slots of
= 9.230⁰

Main poles (12 × 16 cm)

1. The air gap between armature and stator pole face is 0.5 cm, Draw a main pole on
mean vertical axis with 16 cm height (assume the pole shoe measurements) and draw
width of the pole core with 12 cm
2. The pole is fitted to the inside periphery of the stator stamping, the height of the pole
represents the internal diameter of stator stamping
3. For a 4 pole machine draw two more poles on the horizontal mean axis with same
measurements

Stator:

1. Locating the point which representing the height of the pole on mean vertical axis,
draw a semi circle which represents the internal diameter of stator stamping
2. by adding 6.8 cm width to internal diameter of stator stamping Draw a semi circle
which represents the external diameter of stator stamping

Inter poles (4.5 × 15 cm)

1. the inter poles are placed midway (45⁰ from horizontal mean axis ) between the main
poles and are fitted to inside periphery of the stator
2. from the inside periphery of the stator stamping draw poles are placed midway
between the main poles with 15 cm height and 4.5 cm width

Draw the sectional plan of one limb showing the winding on a core of oil immersed three
phase transformer with the following data

Also show the arrangement of ducts keeping the coil in position. Take suitable scale

INSTRUCTIONS

Three stepped core

1. draw a thin line of circum circle with radius of = 12 which represents the
Diameter of the core and insert the 3 stepped core with following measurements

First core 0.9 × 24Φ = 21.6 cm (10.08 ×21.6 cm)


Second core 0.7 × 24Φ = 16.8 cm (16.8 × 16.8 cm)
Third core 0.42 × 24Φ = 10.08 cm (21.6 × 10.08 cm)

LT winding

1. Draw outer side of the core with the width of 108 cm and height of 100 cm as given
2. The LT and HT windings are placed on each three limbs with the height of 43.5cm
3. Each limb height is 50 cm and Yoke height is 25 cm
4. Wood and moulded Bakelite ring placed in between the yoke and both above and
below of LT , HT windings for mechanical supporting and insulation

2. Draw a semi circle with the radius of = 144 which represents the outside
diameter of stator stamping
3. by adding 31 mm width to outside diameter of stator stamping Draw a semi circle
with radius of 144 + 31 = 175 mm. which represents the external diameter of stator

represents the vertical mean axis
2. Draw the shaft with the length of suitable measurement
3. The diameter of the shaft at bearing is given 32 mm diameter or 16 mm radius
4. The diameter of the shaft at center is identified from the half sectional end view

Armature

At the center the armature is mounted on the shaft with armature core length 106 mm
1. Draw the armature core with length of 106 mm and the armature core height can be
identified from the half sectional end view
