LISTENING TRANSCRIPT 2 – conversation between 2 persons (This will not appear in the
material)
Company Executive: Good morning, Chairman Boyle. May I speak with you now?
Company Chairman: Sure, Tom. I still have time to talk to you. Please come in and have a seat.
Company Executive: Thank you so much, Chairman.
Company Chairman: What brings you here?
Company Executive: I want to ask for your permission to let me retire next month. My retirement was
already postponed for two years because I had to help the company during the economic crisis. Now
that the economy is back in shape and the company is leading the competition, perhaps I can now retire.
Company Chairman: Tom, you are a very good executive. Are you sure you want to give up your work?
Company Executive: Yes. I want to spend time with my wife and our four grandchildren, travel the world
with my whole family, and of course play golf with my buddies.
Company Chairman: Sounds interesting. Well, you deserve a comfortable retirement because you have
been working with us for 35 years. However, I’m afraid that we might still need your services in the
future.
Company Executive: Please do not worry, Chairman. Just let your executive assistant call me in case of
urgent need.
Company Chairman: Alright then, I will ask our human resources to process your retirement. Enjoy
your years as a retiree.
Company Executive: Thank you so much, Chairman Boyle. I will submit the necessary papers as soon as
possible.
