Title : Gadget Addiction Towards Into Teenagers

Organisation Pattern : Monroe’s Motivated Sequence
Visual Aid : Power point slides
General Purpose : To persuade
Specific Purpose : To persuade my audience to reduce using gadget
Central Idea : Spend more on gadgets in whole day can be bad effect

INTRODUCTION
I. Everyone have a gadget right ?
II. Do you know? Addiction to the gadgets can cause bad things to happen to you?
III. However, along with all the positives of global computerization, there are also
drawbacks that people should be aware of; one of them is what psychologists call gadget
addiction.
A) According to my observation, teenagers are using gadget more than 4 hours per days.
IV. I want you to reconsider how to reduce using gadget in your whole day activity.
V. According to the Chairman of the Children's Sexual Abuse Awareness Action Task
Force (MCPSA)( Badan Bertindak Kesedaran Penderaan Seksual Kanak-kanak
(MCPSA)), “gadgets can be toxic to children and teenagers

Existing Malaysian studies reported in an ECCE Council meeting recently stated that 10
years ago, the focus time for students in the classroom was 13 minutes. Today, the focal
point has fallen to only 4 seconds.
VI. Today I will talk about how badly using a gadget and how to reduce it.

(Transition: So let’s find out why you should reduce to play a gadget.)

BODY
I. A) Increasing Aggression.
1. Studies have shown that teenagers who spend most of their waking hours
playing violent, aggressive games with their gadgets are more likely to
exhibit violent behavior with their peers.
2. They are also likely to be rude and impolite to their teachers, and
exceedingly indifferent about behaving in a civil, polite manner.

B) Behavioral Problems.
Parents who have gadget addicted teens in their house, commonly come across
these situations:
1. Siblings bullying each other.
2. Children shoulder surfing the parents’ passwords and then using them
surreptitiously.
3. Accessing inappropriate content on web and once that website has been
blacklisted, using the above methods to gain access again.
4. Misusing the computer time by lying that it is about school projects and
playing games on the sly.
5. The child throwing tantrum when he is asked to get off the computer or
asked to leave the gadget.
6. Screen time or Gadget time becoming a cause for sibling rivalry.

C) Disturbing Sleep Patterns.

1. Gadgets disturb the normal sleep patterns of your child.
2. Constant texting would keep him awake during the night and he would end
up feeling tired and exhausted throughout the day.
3. This would again lead to poor concentration, declining grades and poor
academic performance in school.
D) Effects on Community/Society.

1. As teenagers become more and more addicted to gadgets, they also want to
possess the latest and “coolest” ones, preferring to turn a blind eye to the
price.
- This leads to over commercialization and materialism in the society,
where teenagers stop appreciating the finer aspects of living such as
sharing, philanthropy etc.
- In their enthusiasm to possess the best and sophisticated gadget of the
lot, teenagers become increasingly lonely.
- They lose out on friendships and end up feeling disconnected from
family and friends.
(Transition: so what ways to curb the Gadget addiction?)

2. Do compromise on study time.

- our primary concern is studies.

- It is not wise to compromise on academics.
- Make sure that you give sufficient time to your studies and do not allow
you love for gadgets to interfere during this period.
3. Avoid giving the smartphones with too many features.

- If phone is a necessity it must be just because of the calling options, so

for communication purpose only, buy a simple handset instead of a
smart phone with varied features.
4. Choose Outdoor Activities Over Technology.
- When you’re at home, make it a rule that you can’t be online if the sun
is shining.

- . Instead, you have to go for a walk, ride a bike or get some other kind
of healthy physical activity for at least an hour before you can pull out
your phone or tablet, or take a seat at the computer.

- This rule should apply to everyone in your household.

5. Limit Social Media Use.

- Social networks have transformed computer and mobile use for
Canadians of all ages.
- . Whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat, impose limits
on the amount of time you spend on social media.
- Avoid aimless browsing and give your time online a purpose: Research
holidays, catch up on the news of the day or find the answer to that
random question that’s been bothering you for ages. Then log off.
CONCLUSION
I. Many of them especially youth have become addicted to the gadgets.
II. Gadget addiction is caused by the desire to get more freedom and the attraction of the
gadget applications. Subsequently, this addiction may cause unhealthy lifestyle
among teenagers and affect their academic performance. Nevertheless, parents and
government should take measures protecting teenagers from unpleasant
consequences.
III. Government should take actions by organized a campaign to increase the teenagers’
awareness about the bad effects of gadgets. Everyone must take a step to prevent this
problem from becoming serious.
