Requested Technical Tip

What are the references for the Pipe Segment Correlations introduced in version 2.4.1?
Solution ID: 109435
Product(s): Aspen HYSYS
Primary subject: Unit Operations, Piping Equipment, Pipe Segment
Last Modified: 16-May-2002

Applicable Version(s):

Applies to HYSYS Versions 2.4.1 - 2.4.3

Problem Statement:

What are the references for the Pipe Segment Correlations introduced in version 2.4.1?

Solution:

HYSYS 2.4.1 introduced the following pressure drop correlations in the Pipe Segment:

HTFS with slip

HTFS homogeneous flow
Poettman and Carpenter
Baxendell and Thomas
Duns and Ros
Hagedorn and Brown
Orkiszewski
Aziz, Govier and Fogarasi
Tulsa 99

These in addition to the correlations available with versions prior to 2.4.1:

Beggs and Brill

Gregory, Aziz, Mandhane
Olgas (Optional)

These are discussed in the HYSYS Steady State Modelling manual.

Note that all these correlations are only ever used for Multi-phase flow. For single-phase flow the Darcy equation is alway

Applicability

All of the new methods were developed for 2-phase vertical flow and should be used with caution for horizontal flow and f

The new correlations fall into 3 categories

Category A

HTFS homogeneous flow

Poettman and Carpenter
Baxendell and Thomas

These correlations are based on the generation of a two-phase friction factor. No account is taken of flow regime or slip b

Category B

HTFS with slip

Hagedorn and Brown

These correlations include a calculation of liquid holdup and thus account for slip. They do not take account of flow regime

Category C

Duns and Ros

Orkiszewski
Aziz, Govier and Fogarasi
Tulsa 99

These correlations take account of both slip (liquid holdup) and flow regime.
