Remarks 0

• This manual describes how to create and restore disk images (clones) on AXIOM Aris-
tos Radis PC with the Symantec Ghost.
• Creating an image prior to performing SW upgrades will allow quick reinstallation if
there are unexpected problems.
• After a successful system installation and configuration, an image can be created as a
backup of the complete system.
• Ghost is able to create the images on all types of media such as CDs, DVDs or HDDs. It
is recommended and described in this document how to perform the backup to a USB
hard disk, which is available as a service tool. Alternately, it can be done to CD-R or on
M430/ M440 to DVD-R.
• This document is applicable for all versions of Radis beginning with VB10.
• The system will be down until the backup procedure is completed.
• The snapshots in this document should be understood as examples! They were taken
from different computers.
• The 2nd part of this manual describes the preparations of USB hard disk and configura-
tions on the Radis PC by the customer using the USB Kit as a temporary archive.

Abbreviations 0

Ghost = Symantec SW for creating hard drive and partition images (Norton Ghost)
Radis = AXIOM Aristos Image System

Safety Information 0

When performing the work steps and checks, the general safety information for medical
products must be observed.

Required Aids and Tools 0

nection). It contains:
- Cloning CD VD23E or higher
- USB hard disk, 120GB or higher + USB Cable
- USB extension cable (2m)
- OEM Ghost license
• The USB disk may be ordered separately as a service tool, P/N 099 94 872.

can be found under C:\Radis\Crashlog.

NOTE The following instructions for manually creating a log file

work for VB10x, VB20x, and VB21x. For VB20x and VB21x,

Hard Disk Drive Data on Disk / Partition:

Name: Letter:
Med_System C: OS, Radis SW
Med_Data D: Database, Images

NOTE The Ghost clones are compatible only with the same type of
PC (e.g. for transfer from Celsius 460 to Celsius 460).

Backup to Image
• In general, both “disks“ on the Radis PC should be cloned to images.

Restore from Image

• To recover the full system, all disks have to be reloaded.
• It is possible to restore only Disk 1 on the Radis PC that contains the Partition
Med_System to recover the operating system, Radis SW, incl. configuration (i.e., after
a system crash).
The Syngo databases and the pixel files may remain on Disk 2 .

NOTE If only Disk 1 with the “Med_System” partition is recovered,

the Syngo database on the “Med_Data” partition and the
pixel files on the “Med_Pixel” partition will contain current
information.
A functional check has to be performed.

Ghost Image written to USB Hard Disk

• Estimated Time required:

Celsius 460 (original, without the USB2 USB 1.1 Transfer rate 75 - 370 MB/min
board)

Celsius 460 (with additional USB2 USB 2.0 Transfer rate 800 - 2300 MB/min
board, P/N:8691052) / M410 / M430
/ M440

NOTE Celsius 460 supports USB 2.0 speed only with the addition-
ally installed USB card port, P/N: 8691052.

NOTE The transfer rate differs from disk to disk because of differ-
ent compression rates from Ghost.

12 General

Example:
3.1 GB takes about 4 - 5 minutes with USB 2.0 for Partition 1 (MED_SYSTEM)

• HDD Space Required

As the Ghost performs a compression, the required disk space for the Ghost image can
be 2 - 4 times less than the space used by Windows.
Example: Image from 4.2 GB space used in Windows results in an 1.8 GB image file
(depends on kind of data, i.e. databases have a higher compression rate).

Ghost Image written to CD-R or DVD

• The images can be written alternatively to CD (all types of PC) or DVD (M430/M440
only).
• If several CDs are necessary, the Ghost application will prompt you when to change the
required CDs.

board on the rear of the computer.
• If system has non-USB2.0 board, con- •
nect the USB hard disk to the USB 1.1
port on the rear of the computer.

Most USB hard disks are connected with a "Y-USB cable". The connectors should be used
parallel at the USB port. One of the connectors is for data and power and the second is for
power only. This is because modern mini USB hard disks do not have a separate power
supply unit, and in some cases, the power from one USB port is not enough.

Preparations on the USB Disk 0

The following issues have be considered before connecting the USB disk to create a Ghost
image on the AXIOM Aristos image system. The following steps may be performed on the
RADIS PC or on a Service PC.
• Some USB disk are shipped with a “FAT 32” file system. To use it with “Ghost”, the USB
hard disk has to be formatted “once“ in the NTFS file system. To check and change the
file system, perform the following:
- Open Windows Explorer
- Navigate to the USB hard disk.
- Right mouse-click on the USB hard disk > Properties.
- Check the file system. The file system is indicated on the “General” tab card.
- If the hard disk is not NTFS formatted, change formatting by right mouse-clicking on
USB hard disk > Format....
- In the Format window, change the file system to “NTFS” and use “Quick Format” (to
save time).
• To avoid overlaps from the different Ghost files and different Radis PCs, create a direc-
tory for every “DISK” to be backed up.
- Open Windows Explorer, navigate to the USB Hard disk, create the following directo-
ries and subdirecories

\Aristos XXX1 \DISK1

Repeat this for “Med_Data (D:)”.

Shutting Down the Computer

• Select Start > Shutdown > Shutdown > OK .
• Switch off the computer.

NOTE It is important to shutdown the operating system properly

and do not just switch off the computer, otherwise the
“Backup to Disk“ or “Restore from Disk“ with “Ghost“ may
fail with the following errors:
• Encountered an NTFS volume with a logfile that has not
been flushed. (536)
• Ghost has detected problems with an NTFS volume. We
recommend that you quit Ghost and correct the problem
by rebooting NT and running CHKDSK, alternately you
may continue normally.
