1 What’s New in Version 10.0

The following sections describe new features that have been added to the FactoryTalk
Batch products, including FactoryTalk eProcedure® and FactoryTalk Material Manager,
in version 10.0:
„ New system requirements — Client support for Vista Business
„ Considerations when running on Windows Vista

Product name changes

„ In an effort to more closely align Rockwell’s product offerings, several products have
been renamed. The changes that directly affect the FactoryTalk Batch products are as
follows:

Current Name New Name

RSBizWare eProcedure FactoryTalk eProcedure

RSBizWare MaterialTrack FactoryTalk Batch Material
Manager

These changes directly affect the user interfaces (splash screens, About boxes, some
dialog boxes) but do not affect the registry settings, executables, .DLLs, etc.

Product distribution changes

The following changes were made to the way FactoryTalk Batch software products are
delivered:
„ FactoryTalk eProcedure and FactoryTalk Batch Material Manager are now included in
each license of FactoryTalk Batch. Additionally, the FactoryTalk Batch Archiver, PC-
Based Phases and Batch View clients are no longer licensed and are included with
FactoryTalk Batch.

New system requirements

„ Windows® Server 2003 Service Pack 2 is now required to run the FactoryTalk Batch,
FactoryTalk eProcedure® and FactoryTalk Batch Material Manager Servers.
„ The FactoryTalk Batch, FactoryTalk eProcedure and FactoryTalk Batch Material
Manager clients can be installed and run on Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2,
Windows XP Professional SP2, or Windows Vista Business SP1.

Internet Explorer 7.x Support

The latest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 7.0 and higher, allow multiple
web pages to be open in the same browser window. These individual web pages are
represented by tabs on the browser window.
The FactoryTalk eProcedure Client has been enhanced to support the latest version of
Internet Explorer by allowing you to open more than one instance of the eProcedure
Client, either by opening it on a new tab, or by opening it in a new browser window. This
enables you to flip through the various eProcedure views just by clicking a tab.
From a security aspect, the user who is currently logged on will be the logged on user on
all tabs or browser windows running the eProcedure Client. (See the FactoryTalk
eProcedure Client User’s Guide for information.)

Sample code web site

The Rockwell Automation Sample Code web site is a free-of-charge site that you can use
as a “getting started” point for configuring and programming Rockwell Automation
products. Common design approaches and applications are covered. This web site also
allows you to share your best work with others in the automation community worldwide.

„ Formulation Manager – enables Process management personnel to quickly make

formulation changes and variations to existing Master recipes stored in their batching
system. Formulation Manager also allows secure, operator access to the Formulation
variations, to enable quick recipe initiation and execution.
„ Event Viewer – an Open Source Extension to Factory Talk Batch used to quickly view
event journals, build views of the data and save reports.
„ Enhanced Event Archiving – Using the resources provided in this sample code along
with Microsoft SQL Server (2000 or later), FactoryTalk Batch users can easily store,
retrieve and analyze their batch event data using simple queries and pre-defined
views.

Considerations when using Windows Vista

The following should be taken under consideration when installing FactoryTalk Batch
Material Manager on Windows Vista Business, Service Pack 1.
„ Windows Vista does not display the Printer button on the Page Setup dialog box. This
does not affect your ability to print from the FactoryTalk Batch Recipe Editor; the
Printer button simply allows the selection of a different printer.

Windows XP and Server 2003 Windows Vista

• • • • •
1 • What’s New in Version 10.0

The Print function in the Recipe Editor uses the configured Default Printer. If there is
no Default Printer specified you will be prompted to establish one the first time you
attempt to print. The Default printer can be set or changed without having to close the
Recipe Editor application. (#00118338)
„ There are known incompatibilities between Windows Vista and Visual Basic 6.
Container applications built on compatible platforms (like Windows XP or Windows
Server 2003) will run on Vista, however it is recommended that you not use Vista to
create or maintain such applications at design time. (#00118908)
„ All directories needed for Server Options configuration in the Equipment Editor must
contain at least one file in order to successfully “Open” (select) the directory path for
the Option, even though that file will not be used in the directory path, except for the
Equipment Database which requires the selection of a specific Area Model (.cfg).

2 • System Requirements

Configuration requirements for Windows Server 2003 SP2

FactoryTalk Batch Material Manager version 10.0 requires a specific configuration of the
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP2 Standard Edition operating system, as well as
Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Service Pack 2 for using Material Manager. SQL Server can
reside on the same computer as the Batch Server but is not required, nor recommended.
If Oracle 9i is used in conjunction with the Batch Archiver application, it is strongly
recommended that the Oracle server software not reside on the same computer as the
Batch Server.
FactoryTalk Batch Material Manager is supported in U.S. English and International Spanish
only. You must install the corresponding language version of Windows Server 2003 SP2
Standard Edition, Windows XP Professional SP2, or Vista Business SP1 to ensure proper
operation of FactoryTalk Batch Material Manager. Modifying regional settings is not
supported.

The only configurations that are tested, and therefore warranteed, by Rockwell
Automation are as follows:

Component Version and Requirements

Operating Servers
System „ Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP2 Standard Edition
„ Internet Explorer 7.0
• Install the operating system using the default selectionsSelect Microsoft Message
Queuing Service
Clients
„ Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP2 Standard Edition, Windows XP Profes-
sional SP2, or Windows Vista Business SP1
„ Internet Explorer 7.0
„ Install the operating system using the default selections

It is highly recommended that you use the default installation directories for all
components. The application, test suite, and associated documentation assume default
directories are used. Extensive unit and system testing by Rockwell Automation ensures
that all components function as one solution after the application is configured.

3 Setting Up a FactoryTalk Batch System

Please review the following information before setting up your FactoryTalk® Batch
system, which includes FactoryTalk Batch Material Manager.

FactoryTalk Batch component integration

FactoryTalk Batch components are completely open, configurable products that help you
define, manage, monitor and control manufacturing at local or remote sites. A typical
FactoryTalk Batch architecture consists of one or more computers on a single network.
The following diagram gives an example of a possible FactoryTalk Batch network:

Server placement guidelines

There are a few guidelines to consider when deciding where to place your servers on the
network.
„ Up to ten FactoryTalk Batch Servers can exist in a FactoryTalk Batch network.
„ Install the FactoryTalk Batch Material Server on a computer with SQL Server 2005.
Do not install the Material Server on the same computer as the FactoryTalk Batch
