Discuss / Bespreek:
Discuss among the cell, who will be attending any of the weekday morning prayer
meetings, from 5AM - 7AM, Monday - Friday.
3) Praise and worship / Lofprysing en aanbidding (20 Minutes/Minute)

4) The Word of God / Die Woord van God (40 Minutes/Minute)

2 Corinthians 10:1-6, 1 Now I, Paul, myself am pleading with you by the meekness and
gentleness of Christ - who in presence am lowly among you, but being absent am bold
toward you. 2 But I beg you that when I am present I may not be bold with that
confidence by which I intend to be bold against some, who think of us as if we walked
according to the flesh. 3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the
flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling
down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself
against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of
Christ, 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled
(NKJV)

Ephesians 6:11-18, 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand
against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but
against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this
age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up
the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having
done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on
the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of
the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to
quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the
sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and
supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and
supplication for all the saints. (NKJV)
Question 1 / Vraag 1:
What does the word war mean in the greek, as seen in 2 Corinthians 10:3?

2 Corinthians 10:3, For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the
flesh.

The word war, is one of the most brutal words in ancient classical greek literature. There is no passivity
in it, it is a very violent word showcasing the mindset of a warrior. It has a threefold meaning:
1. It describes someone who has a blood lust. It is describing the attitude of a warrior, someone who
likes to see someone bleed. He likes to cut the enemy.
2. It describes someone who has a bully mentality. Someone who likes to hit the devil, and when he
is down, to kick him when he is down.
3. It describes a solider of the highest order. A soldier that does not wait for the enemy to come to
him/her. They go to the enemy camp and does not wait for others to come with. It speaks of soldier who
is fearless and bold, who goes to where the enemy is, jumps in the trench and fights face to face!
To be affective and go beyond the realm of the flesh, we need to be aware that there is a war that is
raging.

Question 2 / Vraag 2:
What does 2 Corinthians 10:4 mean?

This is one of the foundational verses on this subject of spiritual warfare. In particular there are three
key words in this scripture; weapons, warfare, and carnal.

Weapons: These spiritual armaments have been provided by God and are at our disposal. They are
both offensive and defensive weapons and can be found in Ephesians 6:13-18, where Paul lists them
one by one and explains what each piece represents.

Warfare: The word “warfare” is taken from the word stratos, which is where we derive the
word strategy. This shows that spiritual warfare does not occur accidentally but is something that
is strategically planned. Just as any army plans its line of attack before a battle begins, the devil plans a
line of attack, which methods he will use, and chooses the approach he will take. Satan is not the only
one with a strategy. The Holy Spirit always holds the key to every victory, and He wants to provide us
with a divinely-inspired strategy that will render null and void the works of the enemy every time!

Carnal: In Greek, this word describes anything that is of the flesh, fleshly made, or fleshly conjured
up or anything that is natural or of an unspiritual nature. In effect, Paul is saying, “Don’t look to your
flesh for the weapons or strategies I’m describing to you because they do not come from things that are
natural or from human efforts. These are spiritual weapons and spiritual strategies, and they come from
the spiritual realm.”
