To Whom It May Concern:

I am pleased to write a letter of recommendation for Joshua Hartman who is pursuing a teaching position
outside of North Carolina. I initially hired Mr. Hartman in 2008 to teach second grade at Holly Ridge
Elementary School in Holly Springs, North Carolina. After four years, he then became the instructional
technology teacher at Holly Ridge. I was so impressed with Mr. Hartman's innovative teaching approaches and
ability to connect with his students during his first year teaching, that I nominated him for the "First Year
Teacher of the Year" award in Wake County Public Schools.

Mr. Hartman instinctively understands the unique needs and different learning styles of his students and
incorporates a variety of opportunities for learning in his classroom. He consistently uses self talk, modeling and
student lead discussions to help students better understand the concepts being taught. He also uses technology,
in its many forms, to teach and engage his students in reading, writing, math and science. His teaching tools and
student made videos are shared with his students and parents via his classroom website. Mr. Hartman
understands and capitalizes on the power of students learning from each other.

Mr. Hartman continued to develop ideas and programs that would positively affect the success of the students,
the grade levels, and the school when he assumed the instructional technology teacher position. His technology
instruction integrated the grade level standards and supported individual teaching objectives. Mr. Hartman
initiated the online math competition, "Sum Dog" to improve math proficiency across the grade levels. He had
the desire, passion and initiative to create real change.

Mr. Hartman's work ethic, passion, motivation and ability to form relationships enabled him to become a leader
who was respected among his peers. Mr. Hartman served as a grade level chair and represented his team well at
leadership team meetings. He is calm in turbulent situations, gathers all the facts and analyzes data before
making decisions, collaborates with colleagues and respects the opinions of those with whom he works.

Mr. Hartman gives over 100% to every endeavor. He is a team player that works for the students, his colleagues,
and for the success of the school. If I came out of retirement and opened another school, I wouldn't do so
without requesting that Mr. Hartman join me. He is one of the best teachers with whom I have had the honor to
work. He is truly a teacher not to be passed up for employment. He would be an asset to any school.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you would like further examples of Mr. Hartman's strengths. My contact
information is above.
