II. SITUATION ANALYSIS

A. PEST Analysis

Political

According to Singson (2015), being ignorant should not be an excuse to the law. This
means that you should a clear understanding of the law if you are trying to have a
business, because every legal matter can affect your business. This is a safe way to
protect you and your business from any possible complaints from your customers,
business partners, or even competitors. If you know the law, you can avoid possible
mistakes such as lawsuits. You should also consider on pursuing about written
agreements, because this can avoid unnecessary confusion with your clients or
suppliers, so that also if they fail to meet the necessary requirements under the
agreement, you will have a document to show to the court.

Barangay Micro Business Enterprise (BMBE) is under the law of the BMBE Law
(RA.9178) which is signed by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, that states “any
business enterprise engaged in production, processing, or manufacturing products,
including agro-processing, as well as trading and services, with total assets of not more
than P3 million. Such assets shall include those rising from loans but not the land on
which the plant and equipment are located” the objective of this law is to point out those
small time businesses that are becoming essential to the economic development of our
country. This law aims to support those small time businesses straight into the flow of
our economy.
According to Cruz (2016), investment decisions that are being made has many
factors including the political risks. But with that saying, it is still important that we
should understand this concept. Technically speaking political risk can be referred to
any political change that can affect the outcome of any given economic action. The
Philippine government for example, especially the economical managers, showed that
the country has the capacity to implement laws to maintain a stable and growing
business environment.
Technological

According to Hughes (2016), small businesses need to have a solid presence in the
internet if they aim to be successful. In short they have to be active on social media.
These days it is pretty crucial to respond to reviews in the internet just to keep
customers. These days it is pretty important to show your customers that you really are
trying to keep them satisfied with their needs, such as responding to their comments or
feedbacks online. Many small time businesses are still lacking in digital marketing,
which results to The Marketing Trends report to find that one out of five small
businesses had no plans to invest in digital marketing this 2016.

Creating a business requires commitment from the moment you finalize a big idea to
when you begin to execute your plans. Mejia (2016) said that going through the years
going digital has been the most obvious way, and when the internet came it was more
accessible to start the idea of opening an online business. And as we all know the world
is revolving in the internet now, it is simply easier to communicate with anyone with it,
and as people started to adapt, the business side of things also grew and made its own
name in the internet. Now we all have sorts of business in the internet and before we
even knew it social media became a business itself.
According to Vitez (n.d.), business technology has changed the ways on how
companies conduct business. Small Businesses now can implement business
technology and use technologies such as computers, servers, and websites to develop
competitive advantages. Small Businesses today should consider getting the best
equipment or technology to improve on how they handle their company. Another
advantage of getting modern technology is reducing business costs, by using Business
technology you can already easily do record keeping, accounting and etc. Business
technology can also help improve communication such as using E-mails, texting and
websites.
Social
According to Go (2017), There are a lot of factors that affect buying behaviors,
such as cultural, social, personal, and psychological. He said that these factors has a
huge effect on our choices, he mentioned having the absence of parents,
unemployment, the increase of workloads, and communication may change the course
of marketing plans this 2018. With this saying, he believes that when consumers make
a choice, the do not decide mainly on the product, place, or price.

Today’s Filipino teenager embraces technology. Machon (2017) said that teenagers
embraces today’s technology such as cellular phones and social networking sites. And
that even though teenagers today are brand conscious, he mentioned that they see
local brands on par to imported brands. In his study he pictured that Filipino still
depends on their parents on buying things. And on his study, The TNS Philippines
associate research director Ming Barcelona explained that “Despite the Filipino Teens’
having limited budget, low price does not necessarily make any brands a shoo-in for
their patronage”

Canlas (2014) mentioned in his studies that college students get an allowance of P150
to P250 per day. The average consumption of the students’ allowance includes P50 to
P100 for lunch, P30 to P50 for merienda, and P100 for school requirements. The
frequency of releasing their allowance is an issue, whether the child stays with the
parents or not. The transaction charges depending on the frequency of remitting
allowances for children.
Economic

Based on studies, Philippines have achieved economic expansion despite the global
economic competitiveness. The strong export performances in flows of remittances
reinforce the private consumption. The Philippine government is now enhancing the
entrepreneurial environment and the private sector needed for a broader-based job
growth.
PORTER’S ANALYSIS
COMPETITIVE RIVALRY

VARIABLE INDUSTRY DESCRIPTION AND INTENSITY

HIGH. Big companies such as Jamba Juice, sells their product at
a higher price compared to the energy-shake of BOOSTER. The
Jamba Juice’s lowest price point is Php 150, which is the 16oz of
PRICE classic smoothies. The BOOSTER energy-shake lowest price
COMPETITION
point is Php 50.

global-city-taguig-city/menu)
MODERATE. Based on the menu of Jamba Juice, Jamba Juice
offers different varieties of combined fruit smoothies and
different serving sizes. Nevertheless, they have not yet come up
NEW with the idea of selling their smoothie product wherein there is a
PRODUCTS combination of other famous beverages that will fill up the
customer’s energy tank and the desires of their taste buds.

global-city-taguig-city/menu)

HIGH. Jamba Juice is considered to be a well-known company

that can easily afford different advertising strategies to put their
product in the digital market. They have put up social media
ADVERTISING
accounts to promote their products. And since, Jamba Juice is
an international company , its advertisement is already in its
name.

THREAT OF SUBSTITUTE PRODUCT

The threat of substitute product is moderate.

Fruitas Shakes cost less than BOOSTER energy-
MODERATE shake in which is a threat to substitute the product.

THREAT OF NEW ENTRANTS

INDUSTRY DESCRIPTION AND

VARIABLE
INTENSITY
LOW. The supply of ingredients
needed in order to produce our
products can be purchased easily at
any given time since there are a lot of
ECONOMICS OF SCALE places where we can purchase the
ingredients we need. For the
packaging, we can purchase bulk
orders online for the beer pong red
cups.
MODERATE. Based on the menu and
the products being offered by Fruitas,
the concept of the product is new
compared to them since they do not
have this twist we have in our concept
PRODUCT DIFFERENTIATION
in their menu. It will be easier to attract
customers since the concept of the
product is new and will get people
curious and thus, they will buy the
product.
CAPITAL REQUIREMENTS
MODERATE. The twist in our concept
will be considered a unique product. It
could be substituted by other products
of the competitor brand, however, it
will not be as satisfying as the taste of
mix of famous beverages and fruit in
SWITCHING COST the form of shake of BOOSTER.
Primary substitute products that can
be considered as a threat are the
substitute competitors who has lower
price of shake.
BARGAINING POWER OF CUSTUMERS

Since there are many buyers compared

to the suppliers,then more consumers
will considered buying BOOSTER.
MODERATE Another thing is that the price of the
product is fixed therefore it cannot be
bargained.But there are also similar
products that are being sold by
different businesses such as Jamba
Juice and Zagu.

BARGAINING POWER OF SUPPLIERS

Just like in the bargaining power of

buyers we are now the customers now
the supplies are needed to make our
business strong. Some suppliers take
advantage on what they sell to the
consumers which is the higher the
price the lesser the quality. Now our
MODERATE product is very considered when it
comes to supplies because we only
need different famous beverages and
a ping pong cups, this are very
acceptable reasons in buying the
supplies. We may be pressured on
what choice we made on whether or
not we should buy the supplies. Few
have a strong supplier it can make our
business more competitive and
decrease profit potential for the
buyers.
