INTRODUCTION

What is a laptop ?

● A personal computer for mobile use.

● A laptop integrates most of the typical components of a desktop computer,
including a display, a keyboard, a pointing device (pointing stick) and
speakers into a single unit.
● A laptop is powered by mains electricity via an AC adapter, and can be
used away from an outlet using a rechargeable battery.
● Also called notebook or computers.

Classification Of Laptops :

Full-size Laptop :

● A laptop large enough to accommodate a "full-size" keyboard (a keyboard

with the minimum QWERTY key layout, which is at least 13.5 keys across
that are on ¾ (0.750) inch centers, plus some room on both ends for the
case).

Notebook:

● A smaller, lighter, more portable laptop.

● It is also usually cheaper than a full-size laptop, but has fewer features and
less computing power.
● Smaller keyboards can be more difficult to operate.
Tablet PC :

● These have touch screen.

● There are "convertible tablets" with a full keyboard where the screen
rotates to be used atop the keyboard, and "slate" form-factor machines
which are usually touch-screen only.
● (although a few older models feature very small keyboards along the sides
of the screen.)

Components of a Laptop :

● Central processing unit (CPU)

● Memory (RAM)
● Expansion card
● Power supply
● Battery
● Video display controller
● Display
● Removable media

Advantages of Using a Laptop:

Productivity

● Using a laptop in places where a desktop PC can not be used, and at

times that would otherwise be wasted.

Immediacy

● Carrying a laptop means having instant access to various information,

personal and work files.
Size

● Laptops are smaller than desktop PCs.

● This is beneficial when space is at a premium, for example in small
apartments and student dorms.
● When not in use, a laptop can be closed and put away.

Disadvantages of Using a Laptop:

Performance

● The performance of mainstream desktops and laptops is comparable, and

the cost of laptops has fallen more rapidly than desktops, laptops remain
more expensive than desktop PCs at the same performance level.

Upgradeability

● Upgradeability of laptops is very limited compared to desktops, which are

thoroughly standardized.
● In general, hard drives and memory can be upgraded easily.
● Optical drives and internal expansion cards may be upgraded if they
follow an industry standard, but all other internal components, including
the motherboard, CPU and graphics, are not always intended to be
upgradeable.
Data Analysis

Interpretation Of Data Collected:

Age of Laptop Users Collected Data from:

● Ranging from Age 14-33.

● Age 21-24 being the most dominant age category.
● Age 22 accounts to nearly 40% of the information collected.
● Young age respondents will help in finding out what they need in next gen
laptops.
Gender Of Users:

● Male 71.7%
● Female 28.3%

Occupation Of Users:

● Dominated by students at 63.3%

Monthly Income of Self / Father / Mother :
Laptop / PC / Tablet User Comparison:
Preference Of Laptop Brands by Users:

● HP being the most preferred brand by users and Dell seconds the list

Most common reason for preference :

● User friendly
● Quality of product
● Value for money
● After sales service
● Performance
● Durability
● Good for gaming
● Battery life
● Less heating up
● Showrooms available in close proximity
● Freebies on purchase
Preferred Specifications by Users ( Screen size, OS & RAM ):
Recent Innovations in laptops according to Users:

● Detachable display
● Better cooling system
● Reduce in RAM noise
● Touch Bar in MacBook Pro
● HP Spectre
● Folio Pen
● USB Connection to printers
● ShareIt
● Integration with mobile phones
● Screen Quality
● 360 degree rotation
● Folio paper

Hence from the data collected, we are able to understand that the users have a
good idea about recent innovations in laptops

Main motive of this project was to find out what more is needed in the next Gen
Laptops.

(P.T.O)
What the users need in new Gen Laptops:
Conclusion

From the above mentioned data, we can interpret what the users need
predominantly in terms of next Gen Laptops.

● Longer battery life

● Fast Charging
● Wireless Charging
● Wired USB connection between Laptops for easy file transfer
● USB light scanners
● Virtual keyboard
● Projected 3D Visualization of screen
● Gesture and Motion sensors
● Artificial intelligence
● Better touch screen quality
● Weightless laptops at maximum performance
● Better security features
● Facial recognition
● Waterproof

Hence we can conclude that the research conducted on 60 users of laptops

was a fruitful event, which enabled us to come to a conclusion about what kind
of Innovations, users expect in next Gen Laptops.
