To The Moon

So he dug and he dug like a good doge does.

He dug ‘til the dirt covered up his fuzz.
He went so deep that the tunnel went through
the centre of the Earth and its magma goo.

There lived a doge who knew not one soul

for he lived in the depths of a deep down hole.
“Such dark,” thought the doge. “So scare am me.”
“In dark, many fears. Very much can’t see.”
Out the other end, he continued to bore
‘til the doge just could not bore no more,
for instead of dirt to scratch with his claws
he felt soft grass growing under his paws.

“Wow!” he thought through the smoke and the gases.

The magma was orange and thick as molasses.
“Such hot. Very burn,” but he swam and he swam
for if he stayed too still, he would melt into jam.
He was out in a world unlike any he’d seen.
It was colourful and spacious and very clean.
He breathed in deep and smelled fresh air.
“Much smell. Very fragrance,” he said, like a prayer.

A light in the sky caught the little shibe’s eye

And he lifted his head to look up so high.
There up above in the dark of space
was an orb so white, it lit up his face.

“Such bright,” he thought as he looked at the moon.

He knew if he tried, he could get there soon.
For if he could dig through the whole of the Earth
he was a doge who had proven his worth.
The rocket shook, and he held on tight.
With a blast of fire, it began its flight.
Off the ground it rose, slow at first,
then it went so fast, he thought he might burst.

In hours, he was higher than anyone had travelled.

“Scare! Such high,” he thought, becoming unravelled.
But he looked ahead and saw his goal so near
He dashed around as fast as he could
that the sight of its beauty erased all his fear.
gathering metal and bits of wood.
Through a night and a day he slaved away
til he’d built a craft. “Excite! Much yay!”
