SPEECH TOPIC: INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND CYBERCRIME
SPECIFIC PURPOSE: TO GIVE KNOWLEDGE ON HOW TO MANAGE
YOUR PROPERTY RIGHTS AND TO DEAL WITH CYBERCRIME.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
is a category of property that includes intangible creations of the human intellect, and
primarily encompasses copyrights, patents, and trademarks.

Intellectual Property Rights


 Patents
- is a form of right granted by the government to an inventor, giving the owner the
right to exclude others from making, using, selling, offering to sell, and importing
an invention for a limited period of time, in exchange for the public disclosure of the
invention.
 Copyright
- A copyright gives the creator of an original work exclusive rights to it, usually for a
limited time. Copyright may apply to a wide range of creative, intellectual, or artistic
forms, or works.
 Industrial design rights
- protects the visual design of objects that are not purely utilitarian.
 Trademarks
- is a recognizable sign, design or expression which
distinguishes products or services of a particular trader from the similar products or
services of other traders.

Objectives of Intellectual Property Law


 to encourage the creation of a wide variety of intellectual goods for consumers.

 Morality

CYBERCRIME
Cybercrimes can be defined as: "Offences that are committed against individuals or
groups of individuals with a criminal motive to intentionally harm the reputation of the
victim or cause physical or mental harm, or loss, to the victim directly or indirectly, using
modern telecommunication networks such as Internet (networks including but not limited
to Chat rooms, emails, notice boards and groups) and mobile phones
(Bluetooth/SMS/MMS)".

Cybercrime encompasses a broad range of activities such as:


 Fraud and Financial Crimes
 Cyberterrorism
 Cyberextortion
 Cyberwarfare
 Harassment
 Drug Trafficking

PENALTIES (CYBERCRIME PREVENTION ACT OF 2012)


- is a law in the Philippines approved on September 12, 2012. It aims to address legal issues
concerning online interactions and the Internet in the Philippines. Among the cybercrime
offenses included in the bill are cybersquatting, cybersex, child pornography, identity theft,
illegal access to data and libel.
