Curricula for practical work

15 labs of 2 hours: 30 hours

1. The importance of history taking and physical examination for the practioner; How to
approach a patient. Description of the medical file. Describing ymptoms and signs of
disease ;

2. Involvement of general symptoms of disease in internal medicine and in oral


pathology; obesity; unintentional weight loss; fever; fatigue. Examination of the skin
(definition and causes of pallor, jaundice);

3. Definition and causes of cyanosis and edema. Examination of the head – with special
focus on the mouth, throat and neck. Examination of the eyes, the ears, the nose and
sinuses;

4. Examination of the lymph nodes and involvement in oral pathology; examination of


the breast; examination of the musculoskeletal and nervous system; describing and
evaluating vital signs.

5. Talking to the patient with respiratory diseases; differential diagnostic for chest pain,
dyspnea, cough, sputum ; biunivocal implications for dental medicine;

6. Examining a patient regarding the chest; inspection, palpation, percussion,


auscultation in respiratory syndromes; laboratory findings;

7. Describing symptoms in cardiovascular diseases; pain in ischemic heart disease;


importance for the dental practice; dyspnea; palpitations;

8. Inspection, palpation, percussion and ausculatation of the heart. Functional and


organic heart murmurs. Correlations for dental practice; classic and modern
investigations

9. Pain and swelling in the arms and legs; physical examination in arterial and venous
peripheral pathology; laboratory findings.

10. Describing symtoms of the gastrointestinal tract : dysphagia, odynophagia, dyspepsia,


abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, regurgitation, bowel dysfunction; case records;
connection with dental practice

11. Hematemesis; melena; hematochesia; definition, etiology, importance. Inspection,


palpation , percussion of the abdomen; examining the stomach and the bowel

12. Inspection, palpation , percussion of the abdomen;

13. Examining the liver and the spleen

14. Renal colic; suprapubic pain; dysuria, polyuria, urinary frequency, polyuria, urinary
urgency; examining the kidney and bladder
15. Examination of patients with hematologic disorders; physical exam and laboratory
findings in anemias and bleeding disorders
