The College BYU

History
BYU originated from the school Brigham Young Academy. The school was founded in
1875 by the leader of the LDS church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints). The
LDS church still sponsors the school. The school has branched out in the past years and now
has three separate BYU schools, they can be found in Provo, Utah; Hawaii, and Idaho.
Description
At BYU, one of the major focuses is religion, you are required at the school to take at
least one religion class per semester. The LDS church pays for many of the schools fees using
the members tithing. Because the schools fees are paid using the members tithing, members
that apply to the school have a reduced tuition cost (half the normal).
Application Materials
The school requires and ecclesiastical endorsement when applying. The ecclesiastical
endorsement consists of: an agreement to the school’s honor code and a recommendation
from local church leaders(preferably from the LDS church). BYU also requires students to have
a recommendation from a high school teacher.
Academics
Many majors are offered by BYU including: accounting, animation, computer science,
dietetics, and strategy management. BYU offers internships, honor programs, and online
classes to help the students.
Surrounding Area Activities
On and around the campus of BYU, there are many museums and galleries. Performing
groups as well as music stores can also be found around the school's campus.
Financial Aid/Scholarships
The financial aid that BYU offers can be in periods of: spring, spring-summer, or
summer. BYU offers a variety of scholarships for different students, such as: international
students, former/continuing students, off-campus students, and transfer students. Each
scholarship has different deadlines, but all deadlines are at the beginning of a month.
Career Services
Many of the majors at BYU have enrolment limits in the range of 50-100 students.
Although the school does not offer assistance to the students to find jobs, they do offer
counselling to help the students manage for different majors.
Social Activities
A wide variety of clubs is offered by the school, from nursing to service and life sciences.
There are also many intramural activities offered by BYU, including: flag football, volleyball,
dodgeball, and tennis. Apart from that, BYU offers equipment for activities such as skiing,
mountain biking, and rafting that students can rent.
On campus Living
The different types of housing that BYU offers is: shared room with a sink, single room
with a sink, shared suite, and single suite. The requirement for on campus housing is that you
have a specific number of credits each semester. The housing is distributed first come first
serve, with priority towards students under the age of 19.
Meal Plans
One meal plan that BYU offers is the dining dollars blue plan. This costs about $2090
per semester. For different times of the day, you can also get discounted prices at the
commons.
