College Research Pennant Project

For my College Research Project, I choose UCLA - University of California, Los

Angeles. The University of California, Los Angeles is a public university in the west of the state
of California. This blue and gold college was opened in May of 1919 and it was created by the
state legislature. The top six most popular undergraduate majors are: business economics,
biology, psychology, political science, economics and psychology. They offer 150 graduate
degree programs, including an extensive selection of management and health sciences options.
Known for their degrees in public health and engineering, UCLA is even ranked #1 in the world
by Dental School Start Class in their school of dentistry! UCLA are proud owners of 13 Nobel
Prizes, and hold more NCAA titles than any university and more Olympic medals than most
nations. Their faculty helped create the Internet and in fact, many companies have been created
based on technology developed at UCLA.

For your Application, you will need to pay your application fee, provide your grade point
average , Statement of Purpose, Letters of Recommendation, Graduate Record Examination,
and Transcripts. The application fee totals to be $105.00 for U.S. Citizens and Permanent
Residents or $125.00 for all other applicants. It’s recommended to have an average of 4.39.
If you are applying for a M.D degree, the GRE (a standardized test required for most doctors to
take), you must score at least a 154 Verbal, 167 Quantitative, and 3.50 Analytical.

Another great reason to attend UCLA, is for its outstanding academics. A good place to
start research is to overview either UCLA Master’s Studies or UCLA Doctoral Studies. If you
are a current graduate student, you may want to jump directly to: Forms for UCLA Master’s
Students and Filing Your Thesis or Dissertation. With more than 3,800 courses in 109 academic
departments, UCLA offers many majors to help you define your academic path. Because most
undergraduate classes have 30 or fewer students, it maximizes your personal engagement with
our internationally renowned faculty. Another great resource to further expand your education, is
to participate in study abroad programs. A few applications and interviews may enable you to
spend the summer across the globe, even China!

When students are on the campus of UCLA, and are in need of a break from classwork
and clinical rotations, they don't have to go far to enjoy themselves. With sunshine and warm
weather practically year-round, residents of Southern California always have a reason to go
outside. You can spend the day at Venice Beach, hike the trails at Will Rogers, Temescal and
Topanga parks. Of course, you can spend time in nature without leaving campus as well; The
Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden and the Franklin D. Murphy Sculpture Garden is the
perfect place to study; you can have a picnic and enjoy the view. If you are looking for some
night-life, show off your dance moves at Zanzibar or Busby's. Book your tickets for a concert at
Staples Center to help destress. If you're into roller coasters, you'll love LA's theme parks.
Disneyland is only a mere one-hour drive from campus. You can check out the interactive tours
and wild rides at Universal Studios Hollywood. In conclusion, there's a lot to love about LA.
Whether you're a native or new to the West Coast, you can always find some new and interesting
things to do near UCLA.

Some may think that attending a prestigious school, such as UCLA, can be expensive.
There are many resources that can be used to manage your financial aid information. You can
create a MyUCLA account to access the status of your financial aid file and required
documentation. It costs less than you think, and most families pay less than the full price. In fact,
45% of undergraduate students pay no tuition at all. In addition, UCLA offers a payment plan so
that families can make smaller, regular payments throughout the academic year instead of larger,
lumped payments. The estimated costs for one semester in 2017-18: are $6,630 for university
fees, $7,571.50 for rooms and meals, and $586.50. After adding personal and insurance
expenses, the grand total comes out to be $16.802. UCLA also provides grants for
academically/athletically gifted students. Another way students can efficiently make money is by
taking out student loans and participating in part time jobs.

An upside to UCLA, regarding career services, is that the staff goes out of their way to
help find students a job after undergraduate school. Although they do support students with
career counseling, they even take the extra effort to provide opportunity lists, career guides, and
internships for students. All you have to do is visit the website’s career services tab.

Social activities is basically clubs, organizations, and recreation. This university lives by
the statement, “For every interest, there is an outlet in UCLA.” With more than 1,000 clubs and
student organizations, UCLA is filled with students that are influential figures at the Volunteer
Center and leaders at the Center for Community Learning and Community Programs Office.
Some are active in fraternity and sorority life and coordinators on the Campus Events
Commission. Many are even writers for the Daily Bruin and deejays at UCLA Radio. And if you
don’t feel like engaging in extracurricular activities, there's an array of campus stores and
restaurants for shopping and dining.

Nothing equals living on campus where students can enjoy convenience and be a part of a
community. UCLA’s on-campus housing is centered in the middle of campus, so it is a short
walk away from classrooms, libraries, and sports facilities. Living on campus provides students

with opportunities for interaction that contributes to academic success. Studies show that
students who live on campus obtain better grades, can easily chat with staff, and are happier with
their college experience than students who commute. UCLA Housing Services has recently
added approximately 1,500 bed spaces and renovated existing residence halls. Housing on
campus totals to a maximum price of about $15,000 per year.

Meal plans are included in the on-campus housing contract rate for residents. It's
important to decide on a meal plan and do your research well before attending school. Meal
plans are only offered before the school year, not in the middle of the year! When choosing your
meal plan, you should consider your class schedule, as well as the times of day you will be near
the residence halls to eat conveniently. Meal plans offers: Bruin Premier 19,which is the most
flexible meal plan; Gold 19, “the most value for your money” plan and is designed for students
who eat in residential dining facilities; Bear Premier 14, the plan that is designed for residents
who generally go home on the weekends or who prefer to skip breakfast; and Blue 14 which
provides 14 meals per week.

Students living off campus may select from four different meal plans. These non-resident
meal plans do not allow for multiple 'swipes' in a meal period and unused meals do not carry into
the next semester. Currently the online non-resident meal plan application is not available. The
week do not rollover to following weeks..
