 You must have your name and homeroom written in a small box in the top-right corner.
Requirements  Name is featured creatively and clearly.
 Choose 3 elements of art or principles of art to feature. Come up with three creative and
interesting images, symbols, patterns, or designs that highlight them.

Emphasis
Principles of  Make sure your name is emphasized and that other elements are clear.
Design Variety
 Use a variety of elements to create interest in the design.
 Make sure to write your gallery card.
When Done…
 Grab the Arts Skills binder and practice your graffiti writing.

Examples:
Assignment Conflict Colour Scheme
Using colour theory and the strategies discussed to choose colour schemes, students will give colour
to a black line drawing. Colour must be used to show the theme “conflict”. The teacher will supply
you with photocopies of the work to be coloured. You must explain why you chose your colour
scheme and how the colours work together on your gallery card.

Step 1: Choose two contrasting emotions (ex. happy/sad; angry/calm; excited/bored)

Step 2: Think of colour groups that could represent those emotions.
Step 3: Figure out how to show the difference in emotions in the drawing you will colour (ex. split
down the middle, foreground/background)
Requirements Step 4: Colour the image with your plan in mind. Remember to try different colouring techniques like
shading or texture.

These drawings should:

 demonstrate an understanding of the relationships between colours;
 use only coloured pencils;
 show conflict through colour choices;
 use a variety of shading techniques to portray various depths and textures;
 leave little or no “white space” (blank areas).
Colour
Elements of  Every colour is chosen deliberately and is related to a colour scheme.
Design Value
 Attempt to use various shades and tints of colours.
Contrast
Principles of  Contrasting colours emphasize different parts of the work.
Design Unity
 A well-chosen colour scheme brings all parts of the image together.
 Make sure to write your gallery card.
Colour Doodle
1. Draw several lines (approx. 10) randomly across the page in all directions. The lines should
start on one edge of the page and end at another edge. Lines can be straight, curved, zigzag,

etc.
2. You should end up with a page full of intersecting lines.
3. Colour in each section. The only rule is that no two sections that share a side can have the
same colour.

Examples:
Assignment Movie Scene Perspective
You must recreate a setting from a movie/play/book using one-point perspective.

These drawings should:

 represent a scene that gives the illusion of depth and distance (foreground, middle,
Requirements background)
 include at least five elements (power lines, buildings, trees, road, clouds, etc.)
 use a variety of different types of lines (straight, curved, dotted, thick, thin, etc.)
 either colour or use texture and shading to give detail to the different elements
 leave little or no white space
Line
 Draws lines to the vanishing point; creates depth of space with diagonal and converging lines
Elements of Space
Design  Creates depth and a sense of perspective using background/foreground placement
Texture
 Creates texture and depth with size of objects and detail
Movement
Principles of  Lines lead the viewer's eye due to realistic 3D perspective plan
Design Proportion
 The relationships of the objects is realistic in terms of size, shape, and scale
 Make sure to write your gallery card.
When Done…
 Grab the Arts Skills binder and practice two- or three-point perspective.

Examples:
Assignment Mixed Media Greeting Card
A radial pattern is a pattern that branches out from a central point. Elements of the pattern usually
repeat in circles around this point. Radial patterns are usually symmetrical along multiple axes.

Students are to create a collage using at least 3 colours of construction paper. The collage must form
a radial pattern, and all pieces used in the collage must come from circles that have been cut into
Requirements equal parts. You may create a border or use advanced techniques to modify some of your shapes.

This collage should:

 use only construction paper pieces cut from circles;
 contain a radial pattern with at least 4 levels in the pattern;
 incorporate 3 colours that work well together;
Shape
Elements of  Pieces of collages are derived from parts cut from a circle.
Design Space
 The pieces are arranged thoughtfully on the background.
Pattern/Repetition
Principles of  Repeated shapes and arrangements of pieces.
Design Balance
 A radial pattern creates symmetry around the page.
 Make sure to write your gallery card.
When Done…
 Create a scene using only scrap pieces of construction paper.
