One fact is that you have to work with the director a lot when being the DP. Another fact is that when doing this job,
you have to be very observant and pay attention to when the movie is being shot. My last fact is that the DP has to make
everything look real.

3. Describe the working conditions in your own words.

You have to work with different people, you may even come across people you don’t like. These types of people work
year-round and in any weather condition. You have to be very committed to this job.

Incomes for directors of photography vary widely across the field. They can earn anywhere between $35,000 and
$105,000 a year. People who are just starting out tend to make around $25,000 to $35,000 a year. A way to make extra pay are
try to work towards a promotion.

5. What is the Education & Training required for your job? What are other suggested qualifications? What are the suggested
high school subjects?

There are no formal requirements to become a director of photography. Start with a job as a camera operator or
lighting technician, or a similar job in the industry. Choose a program in film and video production, film studies, TV
broadcasting, or photography. Some high school suggestions are English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies – Geography,
Dramatic Arts, Visual Arts, Computers / Technology and Health & Physical Education.

One thing I learned is that directors of Photography have to be able to make changes quickly and make them work.
